MR Falcon

I have two questions about the MR Falcon. I would invite Barry or other MR reps to reply:

First question: I like to rotate the ship on its support rod to display it at different angles. The rod looks like its fairly balanced to evenly support the Falcon's weight. My question is: Is rotating the Falcon on its base a bad thing? Am I inadvertantly threatening the integrity of the connection between the Falcon and the wiring in the base?

My second question is: How long will the cockpit, engine, and headlight LED's last? Any general specs? 10,000 hours? And what happens if, say, they burn out five years from now? How could we go about replacing the lights? Is it a do-it-yourself project? Or could we expect assistance from MR?

Hi Zenwalker, it's still mounted at the same pitch but with it being up higher it doesn't look as tilted. I would've preferred to mount it level but I'm very pleased with how it looks regardless. I agree with electricalengineer, the material feels and looks awesome and realistic, once again, excellent job Master Replicas.

You can rotate the Falcon on its base and it should be fine. The reason the small spring is there is to make sure no contact is broken when people rotate the model to their desired position for display.

As for the LED's lifespan... The accepted spec seems to be 10,000 hours continuous burning. And no there are no customer accessible hatches in the model to go in and change LEDs. The model is covered by MRs warranty if you should have problems with the LEDs during this period.

Got mine today, and I love it.

A few details were attached crooked (and not in a "accurately sloppy" way, either, but, rather, inaccurately so)*, and I may do my own "chips in the red paint" weathering (the silver pen approach isn't working for me) and other paint job tweaks.

But wow, is this thing cool.


*from pics I see that they're all that way, so oh well.

Got my LE Falcon today, number 368. To bad that I am under surgical restrictions til the end of the month not lift anything over 20lbs. So it's stored in the garage now.

I don't think it was meant to be used as a table lamp or nightlight. However, If I had designed the electrical, I would have used sockets for the headlamps that led's could be plugged into and removed when they burn out. I am not sure what I would have done for the cockpit, but considering it is "open" there could have been some kind of provision for replacing a lamp or led. The engine lights appear to be a custom flexible grid led type system and again it could have been possible to construct it so that the covering or lens over the leds could be removed and allow access to an array of led's that could be replaced by removing them from the sockets. I believe this could have been very easy considering the amount of space available inside the body of the ship. Again, these are just my thoughts and how I would have designed it. I did notice many small screws (with a hexagon head) along the back engine panel and near the front of the ship. I dont know if these could be removed to gain access to the interior. I would not try this but I am sure someone will.

Having said all that, I think it is a beautiful model and I love it. But why is it so heavy? :rolleyes

I'm not sure if those screws are functional. They are present on the original model and do function as both screws and detailing, but on the MR they might just be detailing.

Yeah, my comment was intended to provide some context to the 10,000 hours spec. Sounds like a lot when you say it. But, compared to the lifespan of any one owner, it's pretty short. Of course, I don't know of anyone who will run the lights constantly, or even daily, for that matter. I've probably burned mine for a total of 8 hours. But, the novelty has worn off and I can't remember when I last turned them on...

As far as the design of the replica and lack of access, I would guess that if the Falcon were easily disassembled, we would be seeing some "unlicensed activities" on a certain auction site inside of a year... That may happen eventually, anyway. But, why make it easy for thieves...

I've just got some prices on a custom made cover to fit the MR Falcon. Two different prices actually. The cheaper price is for 1/8" plexi, and the other price is for 3/16" plexi.

If there is enough interest (atleast 10) I will look into boxes for shipping.

I actually added 1" to the height off the measurements Barry gave.

26.25" x 36" x 15"

1/8" they would be $195.00 each
3/16" they would be $210.00 each

The covers are not heated and bent. They are cut, polished and sealed (glued?)

If there is enough interest I can take some close up pictures of my Enterprise - A case if anyone would like them.

They will come with the sticky paper on most of the plastic. My Ent-A cover was pealed off at the seams, but this is a good thing as it will help to protect it during shipping.

The shipping costs are NOT listed as I have no idea what they would be. If there is enough interest I can check into that as well.
