i see these babies going for around $1900 (unsigned)

i haven't seen one up close...is it really worth that kinda dough?...sure seems like a lot

thanks

YES. Without hesitation it is worth every penny. If you tried to build one on your own it would probably cost you something in the same neighborhood between parts and your time at the very least. I know some people have quibbles with it but I think they are mountains being made out of molehills. The artisanship of the piece is outstanding. I'm very fortunate that one of my best friends (and a fellow RPF member) has one of these beauties so I can visit it on regular occasions.

The question here is how much is any of us willing to spend on what is, let's face it, a toy. If I had the scratch I'd pop for it in a heartbeat (actually I'm even more keen to get the USS Enterprise). But in the real world the odds of my wife letting me spend the equivalent of two mortgage payments on a toy, even if we had the cash to spare, are practically non-existant. I suppose if I wanted to sell off enough of my collection to finance it she would be ok but the scales don't tip in that direction for me.

Wow, that's more than I wanted to say, but if you are seriously able to get ahold of one I'd say you'd never regret it.

Cheers.

I know its a lot, but it is an incredible piece. I still cannot believe that I spent the amount for the SE, but I don't regret it at all. Every time I walk by it, it brings a smile.

I've seen them go for as low as $1460 + shipping brand new on ebay....There's also a few MR reps here that can cut a good deal as well....I'm pinching my pennies for one....

I dunno...$1460's pretty steep for shipping costs. That's almost as much as the product.

dcarty

that's exactly the kind of review i was looking for...thanks

i agree, it's a lot of dough for a "toy"...but it does sound impressive

i wonder how most people display the thing...??...since it's pretty large

seems like one could buy a lot of props for $1500...but it is such an iconic part of childhood for many of us

anyone know of any good sites with extensive pics?

thanks again

Yup. I had the same thoughts when I bought an AT-AT vers. 1 from MR. It was priced cheaper than I could have scratch-built it or bought a resin one here and painted and upgraded the parts.

Plus I got a helleva display case too. And those aren't cheap at that size.

I can't believe Harrison Ford's publicist would allow MR to use that photo of him. It kinda degrades the piece (IMHO). He looks like he should be in rehab. Come to mention it I think his publicist died last year.

If I got one, the only thing I'd notice is the factory paint job and that would bug the heck out of me. So, I'd start to repaint it, get tired of doing it along with real life getting in the way, and it'd sit in a corner somewhere taking up space I don't have. :)

From a pure monetary point of view, yes it is worth every penny. The amount of R&D alone should make it worth it. The parts alone, as mentioned, to kitbash one would cost 2k. The build time to put it all together would cost 2k....

So...yeah........it's "worth" it :D

Worth every penny in terms of the cost to build one your self. Worth every penny in terms of collectability. Worth every penny in terms of having a lisenced piece. Worth every penny in terms of having one of the most iconic Star Wars replicas and best of them out there.

On the bad side, the paint job look more Hasbro than a studio piece. The color tints are off and it has more of a stamped paint look than hand painted. Look at the Magic of the Myth books and take a look at the colors and the areas like the circular electronic bays. You will see where MR just blackened them instead of detailing them like they should have. A few short cuts taken they should not have on this piece.

Still, one of the best pieces for the money, If I could afford it, I would get this one.
