MR falcon paintjob comparisation

Here are my two MR falcons I received. The first one I returned for major assembly flaws, sloppy putty work near cockpit, heavy glue smudges ect... I can't believe it passed quality control.

The replacement received is nicely assembled and has a much nicer and accurate paintjob, with no exagerated airbrushing, everything blends in nicely, most falcons I've seen have overdone airbrushing.

The two first photos is my first falcon with heavy airbrushing, the last three are of my 2nd falcon with a more accurate overall paintjob and not overdone airbrushing. As you can see the airbrushing is very subtle, even in photo with flash (last photo) which usually enhances airbrushing.

I can attest that the paintjobs can vary alot from one another.
When returning my first falcon they said to keep the numbered plaque which was #625, the replacement falcon box was marked #9, I'm not sure if it's really #9 and put in a random box marked #9. I'm curious to know if more attention and care was put into earlier models.

Ive seen some sucky paintjobs on these.

Its put me right off getting one - I cant be bothered with the hassle of returning it.

Your new one does look better than most.

I think your second one is the best factory MR paintjob I've seen! Good score.

Mine looks more like the first.

Congrats on the nicely pianted Falcon. Humm, sometime it feels like taking a draw here. You either get it or don't, and that's not good for us collectors.

Man, you got pretty lucky on that one. Now that looks like what I was expecting to begin with, a good, reasonably skillful paintjob that does the Falcon justice. The difference between that Falcon and the one I received can't even be compared. Not only the paint, but several pieces on mine were put on so crooked they were darn near sideways, and then one of the LED's goes out!!!

Anyway, I would have been glad to wait a bit longer or pay a little more money to insure that what I received looked as nice as the one above, had parts attached properly and straight without glue goop on them, and had lights that worked for longer than a week. Hopefully my new one will be better.

You would think that for the amount of money for the kit that they would have very high standards for construction, but then again how many people are going to actually look that closely at it and notice the mistakes.

The falcon I received had a very good paintjob but yours is even better. I had to return it though, because it started to crack on the forward mandible area. It looked like some reinforcement popint under the surface was stressed and surface cracks appeared. one mandible had repressed cracks the others side was slightly raised. It was heartbreaking packing it up and sendign it back - not to mention an pain in the butt... that's a big frakkin' box... I hope my replacement is as nice as my original or <crossing my fingers> painted by the same crew that did your replacement...

I know exactly how you felt, do you have photos of the one you sent back? I would love to see photos of your new one when it arrives, hopefully you will get a good one.

I have a few pics, plus the ones I took of the cracks that I sent to MR to show the damage... Mostly I wold just sit next to it and slowly turn int around and stare :lol why would I need pics when I can do that right... Now that its gone, its like my office is empty... Which it kind of is without the huge base and ship there ;) In my office I have (had) the MR SE falcon (#12), LE walker and LE Enterprise, plus my lightsabers and sideshow figures on display... I miss my big ships :cool

I got my Signature Edition yesterday. It has been a real nightmare trying to get one in the UK. Lots of false promises by the importer , lost containers etc etc etc. Anyway i managed to secure a SE version for a good price. The painjob on mine is actually very good. Its fairly restrained , and well done. The only thing i dont like is the radar dish. The paint is a little strange on that but as i said , otherwise its all OK. Its one Impressive model. I know i could do an even better job myself , but not yet. Maybe when it 6 months old or something! OK the forst 2 photos are wth spotlights illuminating it.

I agree that looks like a good one - very light on the streak airbrush belnding... most of the ones I'veseen that ahve rough paint-jobs that is the major problem. Yours looks to be mercifully light in that area maiking for a fine paintjob :love

That one looks really great, I'm glad you finally got one and that it was a nicely finished piece, I know you're very happy.

This is my take on the whole deal, anyone who spends $2,000 on a model is a serious collector!! I think MR should have a little more knowledge about the Star Wars fan buying these high end pieces. When they saw they came out lacking on the paint, why not offer pieces un-painted? I think it's ashame people should have to pay again for a quality paint job, especialy on the real high end pieces like the Falcon.Charge a little less for the un-painted versions so people could have them painted properly.

Michael

Thats a good idea. I would have loved an unpainted version. The photos on the booklet of it in bare resin looks really cool.

I've got some questions as I don't own any of the MR models. Are these made in the United States or a foreign country? and if they are coming out of another country where is the QA department here or there?

And I'm guessing these are painted by hand by various people, no one person doing all the paint jobs and thats why they vary so much.

It says "MADE IN CHINA" on the outer box. Is there any chance that the SE version may have been taken care of slightly more in the paintjob dept? My friends SES one has a good paintjob too.
