Movies That Should Never Be Remade (But If They Did...)

I don't think that anyone could successfully remake The Princess Bride; it was lightning in a bottle. It has all of the right people in the right places at exactly the right time.

Agreed. That was the cast and the script and the filmmakers all hitting just right.

A remake would probably veer off course. Either too Disney-sappy or too Game-of-Thrones.

At best they would try to make the same movie. But it would have a bland modern cast and feel like a cheap knockoff.

I think CGI shorts might be a way to go to sell physical media.

For Psycho...have Janet Leigh turn around with uncanny valley make up--the skeletal mother doing the attack...the curtain slides back for Bates to see the parasite from MALIGNANT.

A movie usher looks for a violinist, only to find one playing the shrieks...Erich Zann largely decapitated...

In the original Texas Chainsaw, Grandpa looks a bit like James Woods.

The third kill--a lot of movie reactors think that the victim left--the way Leatherface seemed to be looking around very upset.

Instead of remakes--I might look for jumping off points.

I kinda wish they would remake 'They Live' but have it closer to the original short story "Eight O'clock in the Morning" and make it a 100% paranoia driven thriller.

If I got into a meeting with studios (and they had it in their IP library) I'd ask to remake "Only God Forgives" but do it animated.

I didn't like the flick, but then I read what the INTENT was for it and feel they just missed the mark. If I read that movie in outline form I'd have been excited to see. Just every piece of it missed the mark... especially "God" in it.

I'd get Robert Valley to do the designs...

I just really want to see the movie I read the synopsis of... Not the movie that was made. heh.

My biggest fear is that they will re-make Escape From New York. They have talked about it a dozen times and even went as far as casting but fortunately it never saw the light of day.

I think that one could be rebooted. But it would need major changes. The original EFNY has aged way out of plausibility.

Make it 'Escape from Detroit' or some other city. The writers would also need to invent some reason why cell phones & internet don't work inside the place. Etc.

It's the kind of project where the studio would mainly be doing it to capitalize on the original name. But the new one would end up being so different that they might as well have started from scratch.
