Greetings :)

Well it's nothing super fancy, but I was hit with inspiration last week and thought this would be a quick, easy, and fun costume to throw together. I've been meaning to do more sewing projects, and I most certainly have enjoyed this one so far.

First thing I did was order a couple of easy goodies online to give the costume a good base. Most notably his iconic hat and a white martial arts uniform. Depending on what version you go for it has a few different looks. I ended up buying a Karate Gi uniform, but I think if I ever revisit this costume I may sew together a tai chi jacket.

Thus far I've sewed together his blue tunic, I looked for a pattern but after not much luck eventually decided to just try free handing it. Considering my inexperience in sewing I was rather happy at how well it came together.

So far so good!

Next step is crafting the Arm/Shin Guards and belt, I'll likely be buying up some leather to make those. Going to wait a week or so before tackling those, for finance reasons. After that I just need to get the boots and a Balaclava.

White uniform should be arriving monday, I'll get an updated shot when it does.

Karate Gi arrived, it's a little stiff but a round through the washing machine should take care of that. I was a little worried about weather or not the tunic and uniform fabric would mesh well together, and thankfully they look pretty good together :)

Next step, Arm/Shin guards and belt. Will also order my Balaclava soon, can't find anywhere local that offers them, or the ones they do have are designed for winter and I like not overheating.

Will you be considering LEDs for his eyes which light up when using static electricity? Easy to attach to a balaclava:ninja

My initial thought was to get uv activated contact lenses and set some up led's up in the hat. But I'm not sure how much i really want to delve into this project. I want this to be a quick throw together so i can finish up another one before my convention in May.

Not familiar with the setup you mentioned though, i may have to look into that to see how viable it is.

I was thinking about how Xrobots fabricated his Iron Man helmet LED eyes.Have a look at his videos and website.Maybe it can be of assistance to your build

Looking good Thunder god, but are you good enough to Fight us?

Haha, not just yet warriors.. But soon

Well i ordered a balaclava, it was designed for just the eyes and not full face. I was hoping it would be stretchy enough to work, but alas it gripped to tight among the jaw.

So i just decided to use it as a base pattern and sewed my own! I had to size it up quite a bit as my material wasn't nearly as stretchy. I'm very pleased with the result.

It's not to thick so it breaths quite well, and is very comfortable to wear. Doesn't feel like my melons being squeezed. :)

Next up bracers and shin guard!

Progress!!

Went out this weekend and picked up the leather I needed and beginner tools, I have to say it went smoother and easier than anticipated. So far I've managed to knock out one of my bracers.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it, the color/shape/size all came together well. Only trouble maker at the moment is the strings. The thing is a bit stiff and getting it on and off has been a little problematic. The Leather wants to cling to my jacket and therefore doesn't slide on well. I ended up having to string it while it sat on my arm, not a process I want to repeat every time I put one on. Especially considering I'll be wearing 4 for this costume. I'll need to either find a better method of putting it on, different type of attachment, or maybe just get some string with a little more stretch to it.

this is one of the nicest raiden costumes I've seen. It's simple. yet very well put together and instantly recognizable. The ONLY thing I think could be more "accurate" would be the hat. I think Raiden's hat is wider and has a more shallow angle, but that's really nitpicking.

Much appreciated

Yeah, there were some other hat choices i could have gone with that may have been more accurate. But this one was the closest i could get without breaking the bank.

Still debating on any led work. I can't find a method for illuminating the eyes that i like that doesn't come off as looking cheesy outside of a camera effect. I've seen great work done for lightning going over the bracers, but i feel that might take away from the costume more than it gives.

Plus i need to finish this and another costume in about a month. Doesn't leave much time to super indulge.

...or: drop the 'mandatory' deadline everyone always seems to chase and take your time.
Creativity is,for lack of a better comparison, like having your favorite drink: you wouldn't pour it down the hatch like that, but take your time consuming it and enjoy the flavour.

Hah, well the point is to have it completed in time for the convention. I'm quite happy with it, once i have these con ready I'll start taking another look at how i can improve them.

Got it done with time to spare, i really enjoyed this project. The contacts worked out great, although i could only keep them in for so long. Not used to wearing them and they grew rather irritating. I'm still on the prowl for better pics of it. I got rather swarmed... Especially when i was heading to the car to take out the lenses >.<

Didn't take much away from it, but i ended up forgetting to pack my black balaclava. Luckily my other costume of taskmaster utilized a blue one, so i just threw that on.
