Monogram USS Voyager, the "I don't know what I'm doing" build.

Well it's official. My next build isn't going to be the PL 350 refit. :( My wife had me order Voyager and a lot of extras for it like landing gear, shuttles, and The Delta Flyer-and I wish her the best of luck in painting those.

Has anyone else gotten overridden on projects? This is a first for me.

I will if I ever get to the refit. It is a little weird that the Enterprise had a budget and Voyager doesn't. :rolleyes At any rate I'll have to figure out how to light it and decide if its landed or in flight. Should be interesting and we'll get to see how well I mastered Acrylate glues. I did really good on my 1/72 aircraft motors, but that was resin on resin bonding.

Well I painted the secondary hull a light sky gray and it's way too dark. Might work okay for accent pieces, I've got to find or mix up a lighter color.

That's the nice thing about Voyager. It's almost one even color and no aztec scheme. Sensors and section borders are another story.

I couldn't find two reference pictures that showed the same colour, some are a darker grey and others almost just off white. Mine may yet be a bit dark but I'm going with it as is for now!

"Nightingale" "Demon" and the finale are pretty good on screen examples of it's coloring. The pylons and the spine of the ship differ a little from the rest. Just keep in mind that Voyager was a studio model and a CGI model. I find its best not to dwell on the differences between the two. DS9's Defiant would drive you crazy with the inconsistencies (how big is that ship again?).

I was thinking about it and I think Voyager got lighter as the seasons wore on. I wouldn't worry if it is a little darker. Can't wait to see them when you guys get finished.

BTW, has anyone ever attempted to cut out the aerowing?

I do wish the Aerowing was a separate part of the model, it would have been a nice addition but i suppose that never having seen it we really do not know what it would look like. There is a build here that shows how one guy scratch built one to go with his model. I don't think he did anything with the underside of the model to indicate that the Aerowing was 'undocked' but still a damn good model.

USS Voyager

I read a rumor that they did a full model (I think CGI) of the aerowing before Rick Berman killed the idea. Something about how it might take away from the Captain's Yacht in Insurrection. Seems crazy if you ask me since they had to make a custom set and a new model just to keep the thunder with the E's yacht.

Yeah I found that site too. He's given me a few ideas now that I've been told I'm building Voyager. I think my power port might be where the warp core ejection port is (so long as my poor wiring skills don't cause a fire). ;) I like his paint job especially on the shuttles. I have 6 of the type 9/class 2 shuttles coming along with the Delta Flyer and a aerowing. From what I've seen they look better then anything I could carve out. I'm planning on carving out all of the windows since the ship that is always in a "power crisis" always seemed to have ALL of the lights on (let alone the holodeck). :wacko

Must have to adapt the lower part of the primary hull to do it though, could be an interesting little project!

If its the Aerowing model I'm thinking of, its just a resin cast of the "shuttle" itself. I'll have to figure out how to and then post pics of it when all the junk arrives.

Y'all keep talking about the "aeorwing", and I had to look it up... cool little ship!
