Monogram USS Voyager, the "I don't know what I'm doing" build.

Thanks guys. Fiber optics sound tricky, but what the hell, I'll give it a shot on those back nacelle marker lights.

Ruddigger-san, You built her very beautifully so far. :love You drill those tiny square holes so precisely. I believe your lighting idea would make her even better. I really want to see this beauty comes up.

Spent an hour cutting out tiny little masks and masking off all 152 windows on the secondary hull. They're not as uniform as I would have liked, but for doing them by hand it's the best I can do. The secondary hull is in primer now. Pictures to come.

Thanks Drac, still a long way to go though.

Here are the window masks.

And I masked the inside too, I didnt want overspray to light block the windows from the inside.

And primered.

I masked some of the inside and used tin foil as a light block and reflector for the LEDs. I also used tin foil to wrap the single LEDs so that i didn't get bleed there, the ones around the deflector dish and between the nacelle sections to stop bleed of blue and red LED for those sections.

I primered and painted the interior white before I opened up all the windows, no light transference will happen that way, but I'll keep the foil in mind when it comes time to separate the nacelle lights.

Looking great! Good idea about masking the inside too. An hour doesn’t seem like that long to cut out and mask all those tiny windows. I’m sure it would take me a lot longer to do that.

It went surprisingly quickly. I cut them out and applied them with a hobby knife, it was over before I knew it.

This looks amazing. My hands are too stupid to put together anything that intricate and delicate so I like to watch others at work and feel pride in the community :)

Just wanted to say that following your thread has been a big help to me as another first time kit lighter to figure some of this stuff and not mess it up.

She's really shaping up great.

An enjyable read so far. The Voyager is an awesome design which sometimes it's easy to forget. Can't wait to see the final version. Learning some nice tips here for my next build. Thanks.

Coming along nicely, saw one at the craft shop today almost bought it but then that little voice you hear when your about to spend money piped up..........the wife was with me :p lol

How much difference do the PE parts make to the overall model. Ive never used them and always seem to begrudge the additional cost, are they really worth it for the end result?

I guess thats a matter of personal preference. Got the model for free, so I didnt mind spending the money on them. They do add a bit of detail, but most of it is on the underside anyway, you could definitely have a nice looking model without them.

I'm going to redrill out all the acrylic I put in the upper saucer, and make them bigger, then redo the acrylic. I'm not looking forward to that, but I think it's for the best as some are just too small.
