Monogram USS Voyager, the "I don't know what I'm doing" build.

I didn't get around to finishing the top of the saucer yesterday, I decided to take my daughter on a bike ride to the Long Beach marina instead. We got a lot of looks on our Pee-wee Herman replicas, but it cut into my modeling time.

But I did manage to get the entire upper saucer done today.

And hey look, the PE set from Paul at Paragrafix came in the mail too. That was quick.

I started on the PE today. I got a lot done on the saucer, I just have the side windows to do still. I did manage to leak some CA which I will have to clean up later too. But I do think the PE looks really nice.

Finished up all the PE on the primary hull and on the starboard side of the secondary hull, except for the parts that need to be put on after the two halves are glued together. The PE is on the back platypus beak as well, and I dry fit them together. Now I'm finally starting on drilling/filing/acrylicing the 76 windows on the port side secondary hull, I can't put it off any longer.

Great thread, so far!:thumbsup Years ago, I built the cut-away AND the voyager; they were OK, but I was only a kid, and I did a lot of things wrong, like cutting out the tree with my x-acto knife, ect. I still have little scars on the tips of my fingers! :lol The Voyager has always been my favorite star-ship. When I'm done with my current model, I'll have to treat myself to a voyager. Your build is inspiring... your first go, and you are doing it right. props! :) I am subscribed. I can't wait to see the rest. ( Cool bike, too! Very cool.)

Thank you sir, I look forward to seeing your version once you finish the ambitious Enterprise C you're working on.

I haven't had the time to get much progress made on this lately since my work schedule has been erratic lately. That's the railroad for you. I've almost got the second half of the engineering hull windows filed out, only about 40 more to go. I get so bored I can only manage to do about 5 at a time before I put it back down, lol. Tedium at it's finest.

On the plus side the replacement deflector I ordered finally came in the mail. I filed it all out and cleaned it up so it's ready to go as soon as these darn windows are finished.

Have you managed to make any progress at all, Ruddigger? I was only thinking about this build last night, as I looked at my TOS bridge build and realised that all the banks of square monitor screens are too grey and need to be blacked out. It was this thread and your window drilling that inspired me to look at the possibility of using a similar method to resolve the issue.
Once again, I must say that your workmanship and patience are fantastic and I am learning a lot from this build. Keep it up!

Life has been in the way lately, but I'm hoping to have more to show by this weekend. I'm still stuck in window hell at the moment, with about 40 windows left to file out. I did manage to get some Tulip puff paint for light blocking purposes, it worked really well around the PE windows where the light was glowing through the CA. Those light leaks may have been automatically fixed when I primer and paint the model, but maybe not, and it was a good test of the stuff. It's going to work really well down line with light leaks found after sealing the model up. It's a lot easier than putty, that's for sure.

Thanks, but I can't take credit for that. I saw Steve Neill use it, and he said he got it from another modeler. Either way it's handy stuff. Also good for making welds and rivets.

Ah, another Steve Neill acolyte!

Looking good! You're a lot farther ahead than me = and I started in an attempt to keep up with Steve.

None, I'm afraid. I'm as far as having drilled out all the windows, pointing them up and fitting the brackets for the LED tape on the saucer section. On the Engineering I've got the nail acrylic in the windows. I've got the nacelles and pylons together with no deviation from what Steve did but I used 3mm LED's where I think Steve used 5mm for the nav lights.
I stalled when I found it hard to get the PE over here. I found one guy and it was always coming soon for over a month so I put in a paypal claim on the last day of the allowed 45.
