Hello There,
I am new to modeling and prop making and am trying to make a replica of the Doctors famous mobile emitter. I was planning on 3D printing the shell of it and then trying to create a model and cast clean versions of the parts afterward. I was wondering as I am very new what the standard practice for doing this would be?

A free 3d program like Fusion360 would allow you to model the EMH's Mobile Emitter, upload the STL file to Shapeways have it 3D printed in resin. Clean the printed part with alcohol solvet to remove excess resin. Wash the part, dry it, make a mold box and use a good quality addition cure RTV rubber to make an open face/dump mold the cast yourself a few copies in polyurethane casting resin.
Et voila! :D
