Mold Making and Resin Casting

I am a newby to this process, I have a small piece that I want to produce as a test run for making something larger. I am making the magnets for a smaller overboard from BTTF. The magnets will measure about 11"x3"x.5" total.

After looking stuff up I found some cheap stuff on bay, however I am looking to go as cheap as possible due to it being my first time, I don't want a $100 failure.

I am making the original model from modeling clay then figured would cast it in Rubber mold then in a paintable resin.

Could someone get me some info on where to buy (again...cheap) and the process of doing this. Or maybe point me in the right direction to another thread that gives some advise.

It would be much appreciated, I am excited to post my first homemade prop pics.

Thanks,
Meta

I'd also be interested in any hints and tips for this kind of thing. I'm attempting to make a 40k Bolter out of foam core and bits, and eventually cast it in resin or something. I don't know anything about how to go about it though.

Also some resin/mold brands I can get in Australia would be handy too.

Sorry to thread hijack, I saw this and I'm in the same situation.

Alumalite has a cheap starter kit, with silicone and resin. for about $35.00 alot of hobby stores carry it. if not heres the web site. www.alumilite.com

That would be perfect. Is there any way to know how much the kit makes. I never worked with the stuff and don't really know how much I would get out of the entire kit.

But thanks for the info that is perfect.
