Moebius Deluxe Jupiter 2 Replica

Just got an email from Steve at CultTVMan.com that the metal
Moebius deluxe Jupiter 2's have cleared customs in the US and
should be shipping from the Moebius warehouse on Thursday.

I'm really looking forward to this replica. Metal hull, interior lighting
and 3 speed fusion core. We'll see how Moebius does in the high
end replica business.

It was a boatload of money ($1200) an I'm really hoping it's worth it.
I'm curious what the edition size is for this piece.

Its 18" diameter-same as the plastic model, only in metal. Lighting is by VooDoo EFX. Its a dynamite replica-I would get one but I have two models that I've yet to build. I hope you enjoy yours!

I think it is 500.

Retail price on this was $1500. I think they limited production
to the number of preorders from dealers, but I'm not sure of the
number.

CultTVMan.com had a preorder price of $1200 plus $42 shipping on a
4 installment payment plan. First 3 installments were one per month
starting shortly after the order was placed and last payment plus shipping
was just requested as he is expecting to receive them from Moebius next
week.

Looking at the Moebius website, these were expected in the first
quarter 2011, so about 6 months late. Seems to be the norm for
any replica company out there.

The edition size for these metal Jupiter 2 models is 200 world wide.:cool
There are also another 30 labeled as manufacturer's ("artist") proofs.
All Jupiter 2s are sold out on pre-order. People can put their names down on some 'wait lists' probably.... in case of any pre-order cancellations. With a limited number of only 200 or so announced just recently...people are even more eager to snap them up I guess.
Also note: These are now selling on ebay for 'Auction' or 'Buy-It-Now' .

Cheers.
:love

When did Steve make this request?

I went through all my emails from when I placed this order and didn't
see any such request.

Also, all the info I posted is available openly on his site or on the
Moebius Models Facebook page. So what's the big secret?

Please post pictures when your J2 arrives, from the unpacking to the interior details.

Thanks

My email started out like this:

"IMPORTANT NOTE: Please do not repost this information in any of the forums. This is specifically for my customers that have paid for this item. If Moebius wants this information posted, they will do it themselves. Thank you."

If yours didnt and the info is on the website then I owe you an apology (or Steve does). Didnt mean to come across as such a dinkus!

Lucky dawg! :) Having just completed building my Moebius J2 last weekend I am taking a break before commencing my Polar Lights version. Can't wait to see how this version looks like. Best of luck!

I received tracking info for the Deluxe Jupiter 2 this morning.

Should be here on Wednesday. I will try to post pics that evening
or Thursday of the unpacking. Now I have to go the FAQ to try
to figure out how to post pics here.

The Jupiter 2 arrived today. Here are some unboxing pics

Jupiter 2 Bottom: One gear well has charging port, one has toggle switch
for main/interior light power, and one has pushbutton to control fusion
core. Fusion core has 4 modes: power on slow, faster, slower, and power
down.

Battery compartment: This is the Space Pod door secured with magnets.
Moebius includes 2 cabinet door pull with a magnet on the end to remove
the bay panel. You can see the magnet pull on the bay panel.

Here are some pics with the lights off in the garage. Sorry about the
focus but the shutter is open for over a second and my hand is not that
steady. I need to break out the tripod and shutter release remote to
try to get better pictures. I also need a macro lens to be able to shoot
the interior.

Overall I'm very impressed with the metal Jupiter 2. I wish it had included
a landing pad base. I need to do a web search as I think I saw someone
makes on for the Moebius J2.

My one complaint is that the clear dome and dome base appear to be
fogged inside. Probably from the glue they used outgassing. I may
attempt to remove the dome to see if I can clean it up.

First, thanks for the photos. Very cool. You're really making me eager to see those clear macro shots of the interior! The ship must be pretty heavy, huh? How much does it weigh?

I didn't actually weigh it but the info on CultTVMan says 19 lbs.
UPS shipping weight was 33 lbs.

The interior looks very good. A bit disappointing that you can
only see it through the front view port. On mine it looks like one
of the pilot's chairs is swiveled a bit more than the other toward
the view port center line.

Probably the best interior shots that you'll see are the ones on the
Moebius site. I'm sure I won't be able match their photo quality.

I'm looking into a base. I've purchased display cases in the past
from: J-Display Case We offer professional grade acrylic display cases

They have a 20"x20"x6" case for about $150 with base before shipping.
They will make any size you want and I'm thinking 22" square and I'm not
sure 6" high is enough, need to measure.

The cases are really nice with a base composed of 2 pieces of sentra
plastic stacked on top of each other. The sentra is a bit of a matt finish
and available in 6 colors. I was thinking about a gray bottom with
a black top. This will give a black landing pad with a gray border
showing.

I need to find someone to cut a yellow vinyl decal ring just larger
that the landing pad span to stick onto the base. This is the "Ghost
Planet" episode landing pad that I've seen pics of on the web.

Anyone know of a good custom vinyl decal shop?

For the amount they charged they should have had a stand with a plaque guess they over looked that.

I completely agree. I even took out the bottom formed styrofoam
from the fancy box to look under it for a base. No joy.

I thought at some point in the past I saw mention of a display base
but I guess I either imagined that or it never made it into production.

No display base is OK I guess, as well as no display case.... Moebius advised us ages ago that there wouldn't be any of these. I had a glass display case built especially for mine with anodized silver finish aluminum framing. Still waiting for the Jupiter though. Inside the display case I am using an alien landscape poster on the background panel. For the "ground" or base of the display case I am keeping it simple... plain matt black "tarmac" with an 18inch diameter yellow circle, similar to the landing pad in the Lost in Space episode 'The Ghost Planet'. :love

Also... a website has been around for at least 18months taking preorders on pretty cool display cases for 18inch Jupiter 2s or other models to display... but I am not sure what is happening with them....whether they are actually going into production of these display cases (??) I was going to get one of them, but I decided to have one built to my specs locally. Here is their link anyway.... http://www.genesisdisplaycabinets.com/genesis-display-cabinets-customizations
