Moebius Battlestar Galactica

This build is being lighted, however I did not purchase the P.E. set. In my mind the expense isn't worth the payoff.

I did order the Moebius upgrade set, mainly for the turrets and museum windows.

Due to fit issues the first thing I did was remove all the mounting points for the Gator Head and glues the bottom most part onto the lower hull.

I added the 'windows' on the lower hull around the flight pods, but I had to take some liberty with the placement due to plastic thickness and assembly considerations.

For the windows I used .25mm fiber optic from the fiberopticstore.com.

Stepping back a bit I coated the parts inside and out with red oxide primer.

I also attached the lower portion of the outboard engines to the hull first. this just made running the wires for lighting easier. Also fixing any light leaks at the seams will be relatively easy due to their accessibilty.

I still have to add lighting for the center engines but that'll be one of the last things I do.

The hull colour is metallic gray, the engine machinery areas (and engines exhaust ports) gun metal and the armour flat aluminium. The armour contrast is a bit much but the aztek decals should bring things down to a more reasonable level.

I should also mention the decals I purchased are from Acreation. However I won't be using them. This is the second set I've got (the first for the 1/1000 excelsior) and they are terrible. Low Resolution, speckled, poor colour. I've asked Jerry at HDAmodelworx to make me up a new set. Luckily I can assemble the model and add the decals whenever he has them done (due to the easy accessibility of the armour panels)

The Flight pod lighitng is intentionally dim. I used one block od double density LED tape (3 SMLED's). I wan;t to imitate the look from one of the VFX shots from early episodes. Basically there's just enough light at the openings of the landing deck's to see the 'BS 75' label.

Also I love magnet wire. HUGE space saver!

I also finished up the windows under the Gator head. I can barley belive it myself but I used an entire 50ft roll of .25mm Fiber Optic strand in this kit.

I used .75mm Fiber Optic for the Flight Pod Garage Lights.

They're less diffused than I was hoping. However, I'll take this over LED's that are too bright (and out of scale)

More work on the Galactica.

I used cotton to diffuse and soften the light for the engines.

I also started laying down the Acreation decals. They're not ideal, but since it's a model intended for a shelf and not a filming miniature I can live with the low resolution.

Looking good. In case you haven't done already, dummy fit the top hull section and front top gator head and engines. Pretty sure it's on most if not all of these that it bows slightly, like a banana. Mine did just that. Not overly bowed but just noticeable.

edspaged2 The gator head will be the last thing to go on. The way I'm building it the bow is gone but I'll have to add a styrene strip to fill the gap (pic to follow)

Almost finished the Galactica.

All the assemblies are completed, just have some light blocking to do.

However. I will NOT be using the Acreation decals. As pictured they're too low res and the colour is far too brown/purplish.
