Modifying an Airsoft mauser to a c96

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jedeyenight @ Feb 20 2007, 11:59 PM) </div>
I am refering to the gas model.
Has anyone done this or can it be done?

This is uncanny, I was just thinking of doing this after I decided I need a GK.

Though there are two obivous accuracy issues:
-its a replica of a later model mauser
-you'd have to display it without the magazine, its much too large.

So who cares lets do it anyway.

I just got one of these "box canons" They are really cool - very heavy. I plan on doing some sort of Han blaster with it also. One of teh other problems with it is it is much thicker up front where the mag goes into than a c96.

Anyone know where you can get the short mag for these?

The "Box cannons" are the plastic springers, I am referring to the gas models that are metal.

I have one of these and I don't think there is any real way to modify this to be $100.00 accurate. The reciever is overall too think (This is because of the size of clip on the m712). Also, these do not dissassemble easily, which puts a hamper on modifications. If you wanted to make a close aproximation though, You could do someting along the lines that that bigboba did, http://www.therpf.com/index.php?showtopic=124875. But I don't really see a way that you could do much more to the gun w/o completely replacing the reciever with something completely new.

I wouldn't call anything impossible. It is a matter of how much time and money you are willing to spend on it. ;)

What metal is it made of, and how is it constructed? Is is stamped sheet metal or cast?
Where does the gas go?

Just some loose, ungrounded ideas:
Mag well: Pound and grind down the step, or replace completely with one that you have scratch-built. Maybe the old magwell could be modified and reattached. Cut down the front of the magwell with cutting wheel, bend the two parts inwards and glue/solder together again.
Side details: The mid side details could be cut when you cut into the mag well. Otherwise, cut out a hole and replace what you have removed with a piece of thinner sheet metal. If the trigger/hammer assembly could be removed as on a real Mauser, then this would not be too hard to do.

I have two versions of the gas airsoft mauser. One is metal with the extended mag and one is plastic with a standard mag. The mags are interchangeable. Someday I plan on making a tactical Solo airsoft, with a red dot , light or laser sight (maybe even all three). The problem is that the magwell is very thin and the mag itself won't let you drill through and bolt through the mag well. I was thinking of fabicating an "outer casing" around the magwell out of aluminum to beef it up a little and giving me something to drill and tap to bolt the scope mount to. This won't look so much like the clasic DL-44, but it will be a fully functioning airsoft pistol. I suppose I could epoxy a plastic scope mount to the plastic mauser, but this would be too fragile to use in an airsoft enviroment. Both mausers are of the same maker and design, so somewhere you should be able to find extra standard mags if you don't want to use the extended ones.
