Modified Motorcycle Helmets?

Having just purchased my first motorcyle I recently began looking at helmets and that got me thinking;

I woulf be curious to see what my firends here at the RPF have done with or to their helmets! Have you given yours a custom paint job or transformed it in to some other sort of helmet?

I just know you have!

Lets see what you've done!

I used a cheap motorcycle helmet to build my x-wing pilot helmet in 1997. Cut it open, gave it a paint job, looked quite okay. I know, "... worthless without pics", but don´t have any atm. And it´s not much to show anyway :lol

I've done a couple of paint jobs on helmets, and one with LED eyes inside the visor. I'll try and dig out some photos. Whatever you do, you need to be careful not to compromise the safety aspect of the helmet - check that your paints won't weaken the materials, and that anything you add physically can break away easily if the helmet needs to do what it was made for.

I can only add to what Knightjar has said.

If you plan on using your helmet on the road, I would stick to having it painted professionally. I certainly would advise against adding any protrusions to the helmet or changing its shape! Helmets are designed to slide/roll with the rider should he come off his bike. Preventing this by changing the shape could end in a broken neck!

Yake care out there!

Though not mine here are some images of various helmets. Some pretty cool paintjobs in MY book.

Oh, and the clonetrooper isn't a motorcycle helmet but a nice paintjob nonetheless.

Nope, Tony Stewart's pit crew is the best pit crew ever, but this is the coolest LOOKING pit crew ever!
