Thanks for the link, AWW NUTS THOUGH .

Almost ALL the images are GONE from
    the Thread... :(

I didn't see it mentioned, is this a studio scale
    model or a 1/32 scale ??? I thought I read it was
the same as the Monogram Viper I just don't remember
what the scale of THAT one was ????

The MJ Viper is 1/24, or Studio Scale, and is reworked from a studio casting.

The Monogram kit is 1/32 scale.

Hi All. I'm the "infamous" MJ. :)

I bought the patterns for this kit from their previous owner. They originate from Icons and were originally cast from a prop by Icons for their Viper. Since Icons 3 other artists have worked on the patterns to clean them up, and fix many of the Icons flaws, but not fix things to the point that it wouldn't be studio accurate. I have been the most recent person to work on it and replaced a lot of the details on the kit that had become soft over the years in the side and engine section with original kit parts. The Viper is 1/24th scale (or therabout) and close to 15" long.

Please feel free to ask me more questions and Ill do my best to answer. Also, please feel free to email or PM me. I'm a big BSG fan and just having a blast being involved. :p :$

    Got mine too. :D

This is much crisper than any SS Viper I've ever seen. Awesome casting.

There is a a bit of distortion to the engine exhausts, but as I understand it that's normal and just the same as the studio models. Doesn't "look right" without it. :D

    In short :thumbsup

Really really glad everyone is pleased with the casting job. I do this for fun, and I fine with each project I have done over the years I learn new tricks. This latest project has really been a wonderful experience...with pieces coming out with minimal to no seams, no flash, and easy flowing molds...very very cool. :$

Got my MJViper a few days ago and I can;t believe what a Piece of crap it is.

    1. Hardly any flash or a ton pin holes to deal with

    2. nothings warped

    3. way too much detail

    4. to much information on the CD-ROm and instruction sheet

    5. Even included to geat of decals, frak wanted to be frustrated....

    6. I did not pay enough for the kit.....I wanted to be broke

    Yah right......

I have to say of all the "Studio Scale" jobs sitting on the shelf in my garage, this is by far the Best Deal.... Your pictures do not do justice, just seeing the fine cast and details gave me a woody..

    MOST OUTSTANDING JOB.....

    So Whats next?

First, I'd like to say, Jestefarean, what a nice job you did reworking this, looks great. Those of you that buy it, you will love it.

I got the 'same' kit from "Monsters in Motion" a while back. The panel lines were not that crisp, and the middle area of the engines where all those greebly details are were pretty worn down, so this one looks much nicer. I put mine into a launch tube diorama, which made the effect even nicer.

The only thing I did like about the version I got, was the new engine cowls. They were very clean and straight. This one still has the distorted cowls, but as with so many of our replica builds, one has to decide if you want an exact studio replica (which generally results in a model with many 'flaws' from a traditional sense), or one that is an interpretation of an actual ship or a prop model.

Regardless, this is a very nice model, worthy of anyones time and collection.

My pictures aren't quite as sharp as MJ's, but if you'd like to compare, please visit here: http://squaremodels.netfirms.com/viper.htm

    Again, nice work MJ..

    Jades Dark Heart....
Can I ask about a shot of your progress?

On the picture of the viper where you show the underside and some of the fill work you've done (looks like some Bondo? It's that red color anyway) Anyway...some of the small detail pieces on the underside of the wings/etc. have some light areas around the edges. Is that from doing some sanding/clean up?

Thanks...great work by the way. She's looking great.

Yes the bondo work was done after the first coat of primer. Once primered, you can see all the areas that need work. I filled in all the gaps and pinholes, and also sanded some areas that felt rough. Those are the lighter areas.

Once all that was fixed I did a second coat of primer to cover all the clean up work. Hope this answers your questions.

    Got my kit today. Whoa.
I'm watching all your builds with interest and can't wait to see more.

This kit is DA' Bomb. She's big, she's crisp and oh so easy to build.

Let's be REALLY clear folks, this one isn't about the build (it has fewer pieces to
attach than most of the toys I buy my daughter from Fisher Price)...it's about
the beauty of the casting and the paint job you do to show it off.

I just think everybody should give jasteferean a HUGE round of applause for this
    kit. :thumbsup

The pilot is amazing, from the helmet sculpt to the very well done jacket and joystick....not to mention the amazing decals provided for the jacket arm patches...you sir, rocketh.

When I got back I saw my Viper and was again BLOWN AWAY by this beautiful kit.. I'd love to have another one, how long will you keep up production cause it'll take a while for me to save the cash?

Got the Camo Gray in a rattle can (seems a tad yellow/beigeish) but couldn't find the Model Master Light Gray in a can. I may air brush mine from a bottle of it that I bought...

Anyone know if the following pic is of an original? I'm guessing it is...

Yes, I recognize that as a photo of one of the original filming miniatures. You can see one of the filming mounting points (the circle) on the port intake.
