Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (Post-release)

Re: Mission: Impossible 5

Also bravo on introducing the new female character as a bada** fighter in one moment and a complete chicken in another.
Must have missed it. Which scene was it again? In the full trailer there is a scene when they kneel down together during/after the blast. Took them both by surprise and nothing being chicken about it. But I don't know what you are referring to in the one minute trailer.

Re: Mission: Impossible 5

Tom Cruise for me is almost always synonym of very entertaining action flick, so I'm in ! He might be nuts, but he always delivers. On the side note, I'm beginning to wonder if he has a lazarus pit somewhere, he looks younger here than in MI:4 !

Re: Mission: Impossible 5

Must have missed it.

"You want to bring down the syndicate? It's impossible."

Followed immediately by a shot of Ethan looking down on her with a smug smile. Also we have what appears to be a woman getting shot in the head which Ethan seems to be very angry about. Maybe that's Jane. They brought her back just so they could fridge. Yahoo. Also when it comes to the entire team, it's the woman who everyone is wondering if she's trustworthy or not. And don't forget the gratuitous fanservice because in this longer trailer It seems to have doubled.

I wish it was that easy to vindicate a film for treating both genders with respect. I really do. I had a friend who couldn't stop praising The Amazing Spiderman 2 because it had a nameless female air traffic controller.... seriously. JJ Abrams tried to vindicate Carol Marcus' undressing scene by simply saying that we got to see Kirk in his underwear as well. Saying that his film had equal opportunity flesh! Problem is that scene with Kirk in his underwear also featured two half naked cat girls which coincidently the camera was focusing on instead of Kirk. And guess who's producing this movie?

Before anyone says anything, I'm only here to express my opinion because hey, that's what I took from this trailer and it's just my opinion dangit. There is nothing to feed here because I'm not interested in arguing.

Of course the only team member from the previous movie who doesn't return for this movie is Jane. You'd think they deliberately made her out to be the least interesting member just so they could drop her without anyone caring. Also bravo on introducing the new female character as a bada** fighter in one moment and a complete chicken in another.

Besides that, always good to see Ving again.

Looking for something where there is nothing.

Yeah, it's not like this franchise about a team could create a female character who was interesting enough to warrant her appearing in more than one film. Almost every single male agent of Ethan's team who were in the previous movies are back, yet the female agent here is someone entirely new and looks to be just another typical one-shot bond girl. You really think that her character is going to make that big of an impression that they'll bring her back when they could do what all these spy movies do all the time?

Re: Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

If they replaced her with a male character for an all-male cast you might have an arguement. I don't see the scandal in replacing one female actress with another female actress. Paula Patton is starring in two movies this year and is part of the principal cast in the Warcraft movie that comes out next year, she may have prior engagements and thus was not able to reprise her role, or maybe she had salary demands that wern't met. Who knows?

If they replaced Jeremy Renner or Simon Pegg with another male actor I doubt you'd be making a fuss about gender. I don't like double standards.

This isn't about replacing an actress. This is about the series dropping a female characters completely while keeping other characters who just happen to be all male. The advantage of seeing Benji, Brandt or even Hunt come back is to see how their roles will change later on. Just look at where Benji was in MI3 compared to where he is now. You can't really take a character to the next level if you drop them from the story.

You completely excised the part of my post where I explained that you don't know why she was dropped from the 5th movie.

Why bring up something I don't know when I can talk about what I do know? She could be the girl who gets killed in front of Ethan before he gets captured in that booth. In which case, yay! A lady got fridged to get Ethan angry!

Which dosen't look like a whole lot. You're making assumptions about why she isn't in the movie and extrapolating some kind of absurd gender arguement from that. I don't know why you're trying so hard to have an arguement about something that is a non-issue.

Re: Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

In MI3 Simon Pegg was virtually unknown if you weren't a fan of British TV, now he is a world wide star, arguably more famous than Jeramy Renner, Is it such a shock his part got bigger?

I thought this one was pretty good, about on par with the last 2, solid spy thriller through and through. The car/bike chase scene was intense. Pacing seemed slow in the last part and I thought the whole friendship between Ethan and Benji felt forced. Renner was so under-utilized it was a joke. Btw I'm not sure what some people see in Ferguson and the internet chatter about her being a possibility for Captain Marvel, her acting was so bad that her face never changes, might as well have cast a robot for her role.

It was a really fun movie. I'll probably hit it up again since I'm sure there were a few small details I missed.

Mission Impossible 6: The chick from the last movie was a robot all along!!

Finally watched it tonight, it was ok, not as good as the last few have been, probably hurt them a bit throwing away their biggest stunt before the opening credits.

My question to the other people that watched is, at the end when the secretary was saying he was only pretending to have had IMF shut down to maintain cover, is that what really happened, or was he just spinning a tail so as not to look stupid?
