Anybody have any information on the mission player with the mini disc that Jim used to get his missions on in the 1988-89 series? Just got back into the show and always wanted one of these.

Good thread! I loved that prop too and would be interested to see if anyone has any information as well.

wow. I guess if it's not mainstream nobody cares. Would have liked to have known if any of these survived or anybody has done any replicas. All those views and only one other interested viewer,

Help us help you? :)
I remember the device but I havent' seen that show in probably 20 years. Can you find some screen shots and post them here?

Is this it?

Seriously, I was going to post some screenshots but I don't care enough, but here is an episode you can get screenshots from.

I'm pretty sure the entire prop was a fabrication. The oversized loading chute for the minidisc was silly looking even in 1988.

Here are screencaps of the player that I took from a Youtube video. I'm not sure if better quality images would exist even on the DVD.
The 1988 series was one of those shows that was done on videotape instead of film so there's no HD reference for this.

The case looks like it may have been a found item that was modified with the internal components. The keypad may have been taken from
a really old cellular phone, calculator, or similar item. The 'button' on the top of the case is a fingerprint scanner that appears to have a red
scanning light added to the shot in post-production.

Hi Buddy, as we discussed on FB, I haven't seen it for a long time and there isn't very much interest - I'd like to know more too, but I believe it's a totally custom vacuumformed shell with minimal electronics. All other effects are post pro and I haven't found the slightest hint of the prop master or maker. It's been a mission impossible to find that guy :lol

BTW: I just took a second look at the player, I got the feeling it's a fish lure box…

A college of mine was the props master on Mission and built the box, I remember seeing it at his place
The case is a custom vac-formed box, black Styrene with a rough surfaces on the outside, no paint and had four LEDs I think, the rest of the effects were CG
The disc was a washer that had been put in a lathe to give it slots
it was all very basic, but the box surprised me as it was smaller than I had thought,
about the size of an old electric shaver case, 8 inches long from memory
