miniature bust painting advice needed.

I got this in the duke nukem special edition game. It's really well made with no mold lines but the paint job leaves alot to be desired. Anyone have a good idea of how to make it look more stone like? They were trying to replicate the look from in the game but it's gray paint over black resin. I thought about that stone colored paint in a rattle can but wasn't sure it was worth it or how hard it is to work with.

What kind of stone did you have in mind? Granite, marble, etc?

I was thinking granite as that's what i think it's supposed to be.

Rustolium makes some textured spray paints that resemble stone, though I would probably try my hand at it by adding a find grit sand to a grey basecoat, then black wash followed by a drybrush highlight. Maybe spatter some other shades of grey in there as well.
