Mini P1 build ...

Hey Peeps!

Working on a P1 based suit for my 5 year old for Halloween. She wanted a "scarier costume" than her brother's mini-xeno costume from last year. So I'm gladly obliging.

An occasional tinkerer/maker for a long time, only recently got into cosplay the past few years.

Using this link as a base for the head build: Foam Predator Mask
I'm hoping to either make the bio out of EVA or to have it 3D printed if time gets away from me.

The rest I'm using EVA and found objects using a couple NECA figures I have and Hot Toys, screen cap, and Predatorium for references. Love everyone's stuff on here.

I'm about a month into the build on and off. It's crunch time.

Upholstery foam to start:

I thought I was going to be fine using the tube style insulation for the mandibles but that proved fruit less once I tried skinning them with thin foam.

This is the part of the build where you're not really sure but keep going, but then you're also thinking of 2 other contingencies if it
doesn't work.

Once I got the jaw close I eventually cut it in half and used the cheeks. They were big at first, so I trimmed them down. A lot. More pics to follow ...

Used CA to spot weld the foam together, then eventually seamed it with hot glue.

Mostly shaping with knife, scissors, and the Dremel.

Messed up on one of the toes, but that should be fixable once latexed and the claws/talons are glued in.

Redo ... shaping to make the jaws smaller.

Thought I could use some insulation to add to the brows.

More trimming ... insulation added to brows. She giggled at the new brows. I told her it's not funny, it's menacing.

Good looking build! Very impressed with the sculpting you did on the Insulation foam!

Thanks, LunaticNic! It's not 100% accurate but I have to really let go on builds like this cause I'll end up never completing them. So I go for accurate enough or what I like to call, "it looks exactly like it in a dark picture!"

:p

Man good work !!!! .The picture of your daughter looks so much like my daughter in the same size , color dress my wife thought it was our daughter . Lmao my wife and I are cracking up with the similarities . My daughter refuses to be a face hugger that just too bad.

Ha ha! That's hilarious!

Face hugger? Does that mean she doesn't like wearing tight masks?

More messin' with the head today. I carved and shaped with a soldering iron. (Not sure how healthy that is. Put a mask on, and had all the fans on, just in case.) It's faster than the knives, but can be too fast.

Added more material around the crown also.

The ridges or bumps don't line up perfectly but I'll have to live with it. Hoping to smooth all the corners and try to get that cylindrical look at the dread roots.

Dread test with backer rod. 5/8" and 3/4" is what I'm planning on using.

Yeah, I'd probably use an extension cord and do it outside next time. I'm not sure how that is, but I know with EVA foam it releases highly toxic gas, so better to be safe than sorry lol.

Started working on the gauntlets. EVA foam, guesstimated the size based on her skinny forearms. Started off a slight large, so I sized them down. Added magnets for closure (doing the same on the greaves). Then when she tried them on it was too small, so I made some clearance.

Bought a foam head today and made a new stand so I can start sizing up and fitting the dreads.

44744554852_4ce1159b5b.jpg

Do the dreads all end in the same length generally or do people vary the lengths based on the layers? Looking at my 7" Necas
it looks like they all end up around the same length, or at least end at the same point relative to his body. I was planning on landing the tips just past her shoulders. I know it varies, but was looking for an average look.

Any thoughts?

The length is mostly uniform, though they do get small around the top layer of the dreads near the cheek area. Length wise I'd say you're approximately right, though I'd say a little longer reaching about to the center of the upper-arm.
