Hi!
My son and niece are big Minecraft junkies. So for my son's school fund raiser I made some tools and weapons for their silent auction. Thought I would share them here.
Here's how I made them.
I started by creating the color patterns in Excel at 1 pixel = 1 inch. I found some free paper craft patterns but in order to keep the scale the same for all the tools I made my own.
I then printed them in color and cut them out. Using spray adhesive I attached them to sheets of 3/4 inch MDF. Then I cut them out with my band saw using the print out as the pattern. The hardest part was trying to stay as close to the pattern and at a 90 degree angle. I'm a novice at the band saw so the first sword was way off when I tried to glue the pattern on the other side.
After the whole thing was cut out I painted the sides to match the print outs as close as possible.
Finally I tried to seal the paper with lacquer but it just curled the paper off the wood a little. I think that was because I only sprayed the paper with the adhesive, it recommends spraying both sides, letting them dry a little then putting them together for a more permanent bond. I didn't do this because I was afraid to glue the pieces off since each tool was in a few different pieces. Which of course I did, if you look at the first pic I place the sword halves off by 1 inch and didn't notice until AFTER I glued them and was taking a picture.
In the end I used Modge Podge to seal it and that ended up working better.
Anyway, thanks for reading and hear are the pics.
