Hi there, gonna start accurizing the AMT Millenium falcon kit soon, and I need some help on the falcon base colour, being in the UK it's basically Humbrol or tamiya, anyone got any ideas on the right colour scheme, any help would be greatly appreciated?.

:confused
Many thanks,
Rob.

Well as I found out a while back, the original miniature was a half-and-half mixture of Floquil Reefer White and Floquil Grime*, anybody know a good equivalent?

(*Correct me if I'm wrong)

Deck tan for sure if you go with Tamiya, i used deck tan, 50/50 to white, then also added some dark yellow into that mix, and it came out OK!
Floquils are awesome paints, but sadly they are hard to come by in the UK!

Found a pic, so heres where that mix got me, if you can get the Floquil, its worth it, but mixing does come out with patience!

All good advice.
Remember, those mixtures...are basically at the 2 foot Scale, or Empire Falcon.

If you BUILD something SMALLER, then you have to scale the paint.

Colors, get LIGHTER,...the smaller the scale.

I painted a helicoptor for a MOVIE called FIREBIRDS.
In the MOVIE, the Chopper is FLAT BLACK.

But the SMALLER MODEL, I actually used a DARK GRAY, as did the model maker who made the RC Flying versions for the same film, our very own David from ANUBIS DESIGNS.

So, if you are using those ratios, remember to lighten for the Smaller scale birds.

If you trust the MR color choices there's a Testor's or Model Master grey that's dead ringer for what MR used. But I'm a lameass and can't remember which it was...

I tested both, but floquil grime white with floquil refer white was the closest match for me.

Funny thing is, I was considering this very question a few days ago. Thanks for the info.

Now I can get right on not starting my MPC/Ertl Falcon.

It is awesome, but can be made even better!

That is one fantastic paintjob!

It was bittersweet watching QuartZ do it in person as he and I worked on our models. It was inspiring seeing his work, but intimidating as I know my own is not quite "there".

Speaking of that, what happened to it? It hasn't been updated in a year!

I don't want to unduly speak for QuartZ, but I do know that he and I have both been caught up in many other hobby-related and unrelated projects.

My own FM falcon sits waiting for the underside to be painted (top is all done). And - personally - I need to decide if I want to light it. That decision is holding me up on installing the cockpit and the rear engine detail. Oh and the dish QuartZ was scratch-building needs to be finished and added. That's about it.

Decision made - Light it <waving hand>

Seriously if you light it you can always display it unlit but if you don't light it you'll neve be able to display it lit ;)
