A wall panel from the Medlab Set from Babylon 5 was just delivered, Id like to know about preservation, restoration and how best to hang, display, and protect it. It's made of vacuformed styrene, has some paint chips and a crack in it that I'd like to stabilize. I have a revopoint miraco scanner, and I've been pleasently suprised to fond that theres enough on the surface for the scanner to not lose tracking. I just need to get it nice and straight on a flat surface furst to avoid scanning it while its warped. The right edge of it is cut a little short, possibly so it fits snug against some trim or a door. I'm not sure where that would place it exactly but I look forward to trying.

the paint is flat not glossy, and may be either tempera or acrylic. It loos like it was painted blue, then silver highlights added and then finished off with a green wash.

So I managed to do a 3d scan of the back and tried to create something 3d printable that could be used as a buck or at the very least be used to make a negative mold that could then be used to cast a buck for vacuforming. The front has too much bubling paint to get an accurate shape. I did this mostly to try and support the panel for display, but it could be used to make replica panels.

Update. It seems like there's a strong possibility that the buck for this began life as a Sonex brand Contour "Spectrum" acoustic ceiling tile.

These tiles could be seen on the tng sets in a few places as well.

While the plain contour panels are still made, the spectrum ones with the diagonal lines may be out of production. I would be very interested in acquiring an original if anyone can help me track one down.

I agree about the possible Sonex connection. I was thinking that already before scrolling down to see your last post.
