MechSepticEye

So I am a big fan of Jacksepticeye, the YouTuber so I thought for my second ever DIY project I would make the Mech/Robot from his old intro.

Here is a screen shot:

I am 5"10 (I think) and I'll be making it to fit my body with the eyeball being my head. Any suggestions at all on how I could hide my body so it is just my head in the jar would be fantastic and also how to add liquid without drowning myself.

I'm looking to make this as cheap as possible but I'm not afraid to go over my $/£100 limit. Cardboard is preferable and free so that is probably going to be my base material. As for time limit, I would say Belfast Comic Con 2015 so plenty of time.

Hopefully the first images coming within the next week or so.

Feedback is very welcome.

So I found this image on google images of the Jacksepticeye robot (which I've taken to just calling Mechsepticeye).

and after some thought I decided to put a sketch model of a human against it to see about proportion.mech.jpg

After tilting my head and wondering why it doesn't line up my smart brain finally caught up with the rest of it and I realised that the shoulders and eye line up of Mechsepticeye which would be not so comfortable for me so I've decided to raise the eyeball level and the tank size. I've also decided to remove the water idea and instead go for a much more simple design which I will post when I've finished sketching it up.

So with my trusty pen and my not so trusty brain I thought of a way to put this costume together. I decided to scrap the idea of wearing the Septiceye but rather it act like a visor. It will be cut in half and placed on an opaque background but the iris itself will be see through so I can look out. The same on the back only it all of it will be opaque and have a stem. These pictures might help people visualise what I'm thinking. And feel free to steal my ideas. Any questions or suggestions fire my way.

So after a trip to my local costcutters and asking an overly friendly gentlemen If I could have some cardboard I got a mountain and then some.

I also picked this guy up so I could make a mockup version before tackling the big guy. Sorry for the landscape photos, they were taken on my phone.

So looking back I realised that my brain is out to get me. I noticed that if the septic tank closed in on hinges it would close flat leaving no room for my body. Go me. So to fix that I think I'm going to have a thin cardboard box around my upper half, with the septic tank placed on the back and front. It means for a slightly oval shape but I'm willing to compromise so I don't end up having to go on a diet until I'm cartoon flat. I'm also trying to find glue sticks in my town but apparently they're a rare species in my neck of the woods. I have a few more places to check before I have to suck it up and buy them online. I should have the mini model done by next week if I can get the glue sticks. If not then I'll just use some regular old tape. Any other people out there building YouTuber props? I saw an image a long time ago of a Tiny Box Tim Cosplay that a guy was wearing which inspired me to do this.

So I'm still on the hunt for those near extinct glue sticks for my hot glue gun. Nothing much else to report other than I've drawn up some more sketches to get an actual design in place. I'm thinking about filling those tubes with some fluorescent green paint. Maybe add a little red too. I'm also trying to figure out how to create the curved 'glass' for the tank. A suggestion I got was clear vinyl but after having a look it looks too flimsy. I wanted something tinted green, any suggestions would be fantastic. I'll reward you with a cookie.

So after a trek into the HomeBase wilderness I found glue sticks, conveniently in their natural habitat between saws and drills. So I can finally get to work starting tomorrow, its too late in Ireland for costume making session so look forward to pictures tomorrow.

Sorry folks for making promises that I couldn't keep as I was unable to start today. I had to do a lot of family christmas stuff so let's hope I get started soon. I've cleared my schedule for tomorrow so I'm starting tomorrow if I have to fly to a deserted island with all my stuff and build it there.

So woo-hoo I finally got some work done! Admittingly not as much as I would like but still enough to where I can start building it a lot faster with the stuff I learned creating these. In case some of you are visually challenged its supposed to be a boot and lower leg, the boot obviously isn't done and it's on the wrong foot but still, progress. I think I'm going to end up making these one piece with nylon straps at the bottom for flexibility. All in all it turned out great, I also did a list of the individual parts I would need to make but I don't have a picture of it, maybe next time. I also used thinner cardboard for the detail, when the paint goes on I'll be able to make decisions for more or less detail.

Sorry for no updates folks, been busy with family stuff and finishing the first semester of university, hopefully more updates soon.

It's been a long time since i posted on this page so I thought I'd update it and maybe lay out the plans for the future. Right now I have no money so there's little chance of buying supplies. That will come after the summer ends. I hope. If it happens sooner I will absolutely let you guys know. When that happens I'm going to build a completely new design of the robot, taking inspiration from Iron Man and Samus. I'm going to create a jar on my head, similar to those cosplays of the head-in-a-jar cosplays (usually futurama themed). Here's a link to a tutorial for the jar in the head. It's not a particularly in depth tutorial but the materials are easily accessed so that's what I'm using.

Inside I'll be wearing what is essentially a Deadmaus style head without the ears and mouth (and a lot smaller) with a septic-eye design instead which I will make from paper-mache. Here's a helpful tutorial. I'll be working up to the sanding bit and the eye pupil will be black fabric or black gutter mesh.

coming down off this jar will be a series of random wires and pipes which will lead to a Samus-style blaster on one of my hands and an Arc-Reactor like light on my chest. The arc reactor will be a simple push light you can buy anywhere.

It will attached similar to the design when tony stark first tests flight in the first film.

i haven't decided about legs or my other hand. I think it would be cool to have maybe a dagger in the other hand (with a thigh sheath) One of Jack's famous lines is 'knife to meet you' so the tie in is there. Sticky bombs would also be a must thanks to his GTA V line 'Ticky Bomb!' I would love suggestions so those of you who have been watching but not commenting. Better man up and give me ideas LIKE A BOSS!
