Finally finished my R2 so i am on to a simpler project.

Picked up a MCG Mauser last year. Want to make a Hero DL-44. Wanted to clean up the finish without painting it. Any ideas on what MCG used to originally finish these? Black Oxide? Blued. It looks like a matte or satin finish of some kind but mine has oxidation so i can not be sure.

Thanks

I've had 9 or so pass thru my hands over the years, and currently have 3.

The oldest have the German markings and visible steel rod seen inside the front of the barrel. Newer versions it is hidden.

All have the same brown finish.

I used brass brush to remove flaking finish off older versions to reveal zinc silver-colored underneath. The older these model guns get, the more they flake.

Japanese replica pistols (Nataka, MGC, Hudson etc.) are all the base color zinc. Revolvers (of which I have 5) are all colored black. The most accurate looking finish was the Nataka all metal P-38- finish was just a bit above being dull. It was black.

Some older airsoft replicas (Marushin PPK/S comes to mind) had a metal slide which was the most accurate in finish- case hardened blue. The newere Marushin PPK/S is Heavy Weight ABS and colored black.

If you want reference for painting a Broomhandle, just goto www.gunbroker.com, search for broomhandle or c96, and grab some photos.
