I think for 100 bucks, for a mass market, available-at-your-local-wal-mart piece, it's pretty spectacular. It's by no means an accurate replica, but I think for the casual fan who is not as dialed into the maker community as many here are, this is a great opportunity to pick up an iconic, recognizable piece of batman history.

I would say my nits are the chest emblem details are a little soft around what should be more crisp points, and the overall shape is not quite right. Most noticeable on the cowl, as mentioned earlier, it's missing the texture. The finish also looks more "returns" than 89, but there's always the possibility the piece on display is not the final display piece. To my eye the overall anatomy of the cowl looks decent. Ears looks a little soft, tips rounded out. The finish really throws off my evaluation because it's casting highlights that don't belong. I'm kind of having the "uncanny valley" experience with it. I can't quite describe what doesn't look right about it, but my brain knows it aint right.

I am not a member of the audience this piece was made for, so I won't judge it too harshly. But if someone wanted a MUCH more accurate cowl that they could wear, those are pretty easy to find these days. But for 100 bucks, for something you can have in your hands right away and will be a great display piece, I think it's awesome. We are living in a golden age for sure.

I guess one plus side to being plastic is not having to worry about it drying out and cracking like a latex mask. I think these also fit in the same area as Black Series helmets. a bit idealized, but durable and great for the price.

MattMunson where are you getting the $100 price? The black series Star Wars helmets are now creeping towards the $150 mark (although most of them have electronic functions). For $100 this is phenomenal! Much closer than the $800 Factory Entertainment Tricorder (I know it's not apples to apples, but that's a lot of money)

In my 18 years in the Batman costume hobby I have yet to see a latex cowl break down and fall apart. Unless it was foam latex. But that is a different thing altogether.

I wonder if anyone's going to use this to make molds for their own '89 cowls?

I think that's inevitable, though I don't think anyone will buy them. Why buy a recast of an inaccurate cowl when you can buy one that has some screen lineage in its DNA? Don't get me wrong, history has shown that there's always someone looking to make a fast buck, so we shall see.

And thank you gents for the back up on the price point. I was actually worried I may have gotten that wrong in my head, as I often do, but it seems that at least two places were selling them at 100 bucks. which again is a FANTASTIC price for something that looks this cool and can take up some space on your desk or shelves.

Yeah, I meant to add in "for their own use" but the system ate my edit!

This is a perfect addition to my very cool, but very cheap Batman 89 arsenal. NECA and this. (y)

I love Batman 89, but the high end props were more than I would want to spend, so NECA has been a Godsend.

I do wish someone would offer the Ninja Wheel.

I hope we can Dremel down those super thick edges, but how cool is this gonna look with the NECA utility belt around it's base and a wall of weapons next to it, and so cheap!!!!!!!!!

It's literally their action figure (which is awful, btw) cowl in human size. Nothing different. Same awful details.
