From the What Is This? feature. Don't know if this is screen-used, etc., but it don't cost nothing.

That's the real deal.

"What is This?" is a guessing game on the Star Wars Kids website.
They show you a small section of a photo and have to guess what it is.
The closeup pic only showed the ridges. This is the reveal.

It's not for sale.

Yep. That's a pic of one of the (4 I believe) hero maul sabers.
All the hero's were resin with metal ends.
There's no such thing as an all metal maul saber used in the film.

None of the sabers were all metal. Only the Qui Gon and Obi-Wan had metal body pieces though the black parts were resin.

The hero Maul sabers even had resin buttons and LEDs. The original resin body saber with real buttons was too short so they recast it as a last minute change to lengthen the saber.

If there's no metal Maul saber, then what did they use as the master to mold and cast the resin parts from?

A lot of the ep. 1 sabers were built out of "module" system of machined parts.
These modules (certain sections of a saber usually a few inches long) arranged in different configurations are what make up the different sabers.
The maul saber was constructed using only two different modules repeated over and over.
Once a saber design was decided upon, the piecemailed saber was cast again as a whole piece.
Look at the ep. 1 sabers again (except for obi and qui) and you'll see what I'm talking about.

The Hero Maul was recast from the short Maul.
Who knows what they cast the resin Hero bodies from. The masters could have been machined Delrin, but they were not full props. Metal details were found parts, like the stacked washers on the Maul emitters.

Are there any pictures available to the public that show clearly the emitter segment was stacked washers? Certainly looks like it, and I have used those. Just wondering if we have publicly available "conclusive proof."

Was the very end piece (the "thickest" washer) actually a washer or found parts? Or was that a specially machined dingus?

At least one of the hero Maul sabers has been on display so the reference is out there. The washers are very obvious up close.

There's a pretty good size pic of the emitter on partsofsw.com...

The top piece is not a washer. It might be related to the angled emitter piece on the other prequel sabers or custom machined. There is a steel washer inset in the emitter face and a 3/8" steel rod in the center like the other sabers.
