MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

The decals look GREAT! just one question, is the footstrap flexible? it looks pretty "rigid" in the pictures.

It is! It's fur, glued to the backing material. You can position it up, down or anywhere inbetween. I just like to have it VERY slightly above, since Marty steps on it anyway.

It's stiff enough to stand up proper on it's own, but it's not rigid. You can "pose" it, if you will, and fluff the fur up or flatten it - however you like.

Thank you! It's tricky to get it to show in true color on -camera, so i'm getting pics in all sorts of lighting and shadow to give an idea. The velcro really changes depending on the light, it absorbs it and seems to glow at times.

From seeing it in different lights, it's really amazing how great the final product looks. Not 100% screen accurate, but a very worthy representation of BTTF and what we see in the films.

You bet! And by the way, in the last video you posted, it's impossible not to remember that scene:

:lol

For Vinz:
haven't you thought about adding the white stripe along the edge of the footpad?
i think it'd make a world of difference :)

Not really. I'm pretty thrilled with how it looks. I guess i'm not as much of a stickler for the smaller details as you guys are. It WOULD add a lot, but it all depends on which Hoverboard comes to mind when you think "Hoverboard".

True :) i guess it just depends on everyone's personal taste, after all the matty board isn't 100% screen accurate as it is...

Exactly! That's the beauty of these kits. There's a lot of options, so everyone can have their unique hoverboard, just the way they want it.

Roland,

Is it possible for you to recreate the footpad decal into this kind of "clear green" instead of that transparent decal (that will keep showing the dark green background of the footpad)?

See the pictures below just as an example:

(...this kind of "clear green"):

P.S.: I think is not necessary to reproduce that little black hole over the footpad, just the clear green color itselfs.
I think it could be done with vinyl.
What do you think or suggest? :)

Good idea Wes!
i looked online and i found only this picture with what looks like the "dark green" footpad background

I guess this is another detail that varies from board to board, but overall i agree that the light green footpad looks better :)

That is a good point. But it's another one of those things that widely varies between boards.

The footpad on (in?) Matty's board has a lot more blue in it than yellow. Also, the boards in Part III, are a lot different than Part II. Most of them are Stunt boards, most notably when Marty slides it to Doc during the Railroad Rescue.

Roland,

It's possible, of course, but it wouldn't make sense, since my footpad decal doesn't cover the whole footpad. But feel free to paint your footpad or the transparent part of my decal yourself in a green shade of your choice. ;)

Paint the foot pad first. Add Rolands decal. Voila!

Lookin good. Nice to see these things aren't a total loss!

I think you'll find that most of the variants you see for the foot-pad colour are due to the nature of the fluorescent green vinyl that was originally used. Fluorescent's have a tendency to photograph strangely.

Probably the best thing to do would be to purchase a sheet of fluorescent green vinyl and apply it. If it is accurate Velcro it should be a touch lighter than the vinyl.

Like this.

If so, you'll be all set.

Roland, I could swear that the footpad decal was a complete transparent circle over all of it. Now I can't notice how it really is. :)
Well, as I'm not a paint master, and certainly if I'll try that I'll make a mess, I choose to go with the suggestion of applying a "light green" (not "clear green", thanks for the correction :thumbsup) vinyl over it. The problem is I don't have no idea how to find this kind of product over here in Brazil.

Roland, If is it possible (or more easy) for you to find it, and made an adaptation of this part of the decals, It will be very nice. At the end, I think the board will be more closer look as the "Back to the Future III Hover Board".

By the way, thanks for everyone for the participation into this subject! ;)

Yes, Roland, you're right. The footpad's green color is brighter than that photo Vinz uploaded. Its color is near to the photo you've just uploaded.
