Hi all,

This is my first post, I joined up here to keep an eye on this thread.
This prop was (hopefully still) going to be a dream come true for me. I'm sure like most the first time I saw the film as a kid I wanted a board.

I have trawled through most of this thread and after not hearing much since making my pre-order I am shocked that things look like they have gone backwards.
I hope that Matty are watching this thread which is a wealth of info and that they are taking notes. It's also nice to see people are trying to help over on their forum, I hope the info is taken seriously and they are trying their best to address what looks like some quite easy to address issues.
I can forgive them not having the real lenticular material but to mess up the size of parts after having the real props is just madness.

The sound effects are a nice bonus but if its going to sacrifice accuracy then drop it.

I would also rather they delay the release until next year if it means we get a better product. I know this would mean more cost and is unlikely but after boasting that this would be accurate I would expect them to try to deliver.

Like many I ordered because I was impressed with what I saw from their GB trap. I just hope and pray they have another version we have not seen that will put a smile back on out faces.

Can I also just say thanks to those that are trying to help Mattel, it's appreciated that you guys are trying to help us get a better product. :thumbsup

I'd be willing to say that ZERO people ordered this board because it has sound so if that addition takes away from the accuracy, remove it. I want a board that I can hang on my wall or put on a shelf.

Agreed. After a quick test of the sounds I will be removing any batteries to avoid leakage and hang it on the wall. but I guess not much will change. Mattel has it on their 2012 schedule and november isn't that far away. The factory in China might be producing them as we speak.

Toyguru said delay is not an option because of their schedule. In the long run the HB might prove to be an interesting investment being the only one made by Mattel itself. There will (most certainly) be flaws but it's cool to own none the less. Imho.

You nailed it. Being the only licenced hoverboard released by Mattel it will hold its value just fine, flaws and all.

Yep, I will hold onto mine as well or give it to my son.

But people will also always remember Matty promised an accurate replica and after taking the money on that promise, delivered an idealized inaccurate toy instead. That take away is a different lasting matter all together.

I have been following this thread for a while. I have also pre-ordered the hover-botch & after the fiasco that has gone down this last month I do not have any confidence left in it at all, just disappointment. I mean seriously how hard is it for MattyCollector to create a 'movie accurate' prop as promised!! They even had a few of the original hoverboards in their possession and it seems that they still can't even get it right!! I have lost pretty much all my respect for MattyCollector.

I have an order for this and am gonna keep it for now. I'd prefer a straight prop replica altogether. However I think Matty is hung-up on trying to get it as accurate w/ effects as possible. I'm keeping my order just in case it's a home run.

Nick really nailed it in the HB Q&A forum. Toygurus answer was pathetic and it drove home that they just gave up on doing what they promised originally. Now it truly comes down to how much of a recovery can they pull with what they have done to this point. It really is a waiting game at this time but given the lack of response followed by the attitude in which they did respond, I don't have high hopes on this.

As I noted earlier, it comes down to how much pf an ethical principled culture they have versus the bottom line. This will be a very telling situation by what they produce to what they had originally promised. It will make for a great text book case study.

In this case no news is actually good news. I know they are working hard at correcting a lot of the issues and I would've got a "oh no it's not going well" email by now. I also know that more people are involved now than worked on the 2 SDCC boards.

I'm curious about the lenticular/foil that they are developing. Will update soon.

Does anybody know the length of the kicktail on the screen used boards?

Or the diameter of the screen used footpads?

I've been doing some research. Little bit here and there. There are a few questions I really want to figure out for us all. Such as what brand of paint was used. It seems to be a very specific shade, most of the screen used boards I see have a hue of orange to the pink base. Some don't.

It's crazy I know, but I think it's possible to find a match this way. Art Departments use model paints too. The components look brush painted even...as if a noob modeler was making the boards.

Not a crazy question at all...

From what I have found, they used a few different types of pinks. Depending on the type of board (lenticular or stunt) and the time it was made during the filming process.

Frustratingly, different types of "bright pinks" were used on the top and bottom stripes as well (compared to other board stripes), depending on whether they were velcro, felt, vinyl, or the screen print stunt boards.

To add to the confusion, fluorescent pink is inherently a bad color for trying to reference. Are you on a laptop right now? Search for neon pink and tip the laptop screen up and down... you will see the hue shift from orange to magenta. On film, if the white balance is slightly different from shot to shot, it will give it a more orange or magneta/purple look respectively.

Also, fluorescent colors tend to reflect light in different ways depending on situation.

Here are some reference photos to give you an idea. Note that in the first pic, the exact same boards are paired together (except for the top which I labeled as master). You can see how even though they are the same boards they can look very different.

If so, have you decided on what paint you'll use? I think this is a good topic to collaborate on, to find the paints used...unless of course the paints were custom mixed for the film. Then we'd be screwed...lol...

FYI on the pink - from what I have found, the velcro on the top stripes seems to match the pink on your last spray can image - more of a "hot pink" close to magenta. The bottom (magnet side) of the board vinyl stripes used the "orangey/flurecent pink" color from the first can. I am speaking strictly about the 2015 hero hoverboards.

It seems like the orangey/neon pink vinyl was used on the top and bottom of most hero's, but the top had the velcro applied over the vinyl. Interestingly enough, it looks like one of the hero boards that made it to today doesn't have the velcro applied! See below (compared to the skateboard lenticular board):

I'm guessing they had it ready to go, but it was never used so last minute hand add-on were not applied.

I like the paint on your second picture (Rust-Oleum Fluorescent). It's very similar to the color I will use for my own board (pink with a hint of salmon color). My color will be a little bit darker.

That's the best way to describe it. I think the salmon color is an aspect of the "fluorescent/neon" nature of the pink.

Yeah at the moment I'm thinking the Rustoleum is the best way to go, which is of course great for me, because I live in Australia. The Rustolem-free country. :lol

I was also thinking about using a more regular florescent pink over a light grey base to tone it down a bit, probably won't look right in the end though.
