MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

I don't know if anyone noticed but on some boards like the one above, it has the lenticular striping around the middle edging of the boards.

Theres a silver reflective strip to go along the sides of the hoverboard I have a picture of confirmation I will post in a bit.

The velcro on the hero boards are not Velcro. The screen used board picture I have it seems to be like a belt material you would find on khaki shorts.pics in a little bit

Pitbull,

The silver around that board is known as "prism tape". Strangely, I have never seen this before on any of the prop boards. Most had a strip of the "lenticular honeycomb" material (on the hero boards) or were painted silver around the edges (stunt boards like in your photo).

I don't think it's khaki material. I think they simply used the fuzzy and stiff sides of the velcro (as it comes packaged). See below...

Although it looks like that silver prism tape, it isn't. The strip around the board is pink honeycomb lenticular they used for the top surface of the hero boards. I am guessing the picture of the board that has the prism tape was used in part 3 when they ran out of the material.

Hey clock I guess your right maybe it's the paint over the Velcro which is throwing me off?

Well looks like Bratty Matty is going with a decal only, so no layered effect or lenticular. It's too hard to cut Velcro like material and apply it to the board. I guess the Barbie Division expertise in fabrics is off limits. Ha!

Where did you hear this?

@egoing; Mattel recently explained in detail why they omitted the green zig-zag velcro. They also stated the green on the pad and the pink stripes WILL be velcro. There are recessed areas in the tooling to accomodate those.

@pp

they could always just 'include' green velcro adhesive strips for us to put on the board to actually make it 'accurate' as originally over-promised.

I don't think that would be too hard.

I bet, if they'd do it and add some velcro strips for us, it would be the completely wrong colors. Better buy it yourself. :lol

If it is recessed, does that mean the tooling already done is going to clash with any corrected graphic layout? Sounds like the project is doomed from that point if that is the case.

Yeah, that will be an issue. I think it's funny that while the SDCC board is/was 'SoooOOOOooo not final', the tooling on the board is. The hard parts are locked in and FINAL. They can't make any revisions to tooling and still deliver in 2012.

All that can change now is surface details and materials.

This post at Matty kills everything:

It would make a lot of us very happy. It would (or could) match the green they're already putting on the disc and save us some money sourcing and shipping the exact color. I truly hope Mattel will include it as a added bonus to compensate for all the hassle.
But I'm not counting on it.

As cool as that would be I'm not holding my breath. I do plan to keep my preorder. I am curious to see the final product.
