MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

I've got a Matty board on the way, we'll see what happens. I wanted to buy it second-hand so I could make sure there aren't any bubbles in the graphics. I definitely want to upgrade to Roland's incredible graphics later on, and I'll be adding the pink faux fur to the strap. Unfortunately I just can't swing the graphics upgrade before my convention.

Overall, I know the Matty board isn't the best by far, but it'll serve the purpose I need it for (cosplay). Especially with the upgrades to it I want to do, I think it can be turned into a worthy prop. :thumbsup

Oh for Cosplay, it'll do great! The actual plastic board itself isn't entirely screen-accurate, but it is VERY durable. It'll hold up to the wear-and-tear of the Con floor, and the crowds with no problems. That's what the Matty board is best for, it can take the heat better than a more accurate board.

The big issue with it is the stickers, but as we've already covered, most people will just be excited to see a "Real" Hoverboard, even if the details are off. I think it'll go over just fine. T

Sorry for the bit of a rant, but I like hitting conventions too - just wanted to toss in my $0.02.

That's exactly what I was hoping! My main reason for ordering it was definitely the durability, and the fact that it'll hold up better for con use and transporting than if I would have made one myself. It's great to know it'll do exactly that! Thanks a bunch!

Of course I can't wait to update the graphics on it, but that'll have to happen sometime after the convention I'm going to. For now I'm just thrilled I'll have a hoverboard prop. :thumbsup

Sure thing! After handling mine, I don't think you'll have any issues. It's very sturdy, it'll be perfect - even after you upgrade it.

In my hands, Doc! I've got it in my hands!

Just a little update for this side, I have finally got my hands on the pack! Pics to follow! Photoshoot as soon as the sun comes back up.

Quick heads-up, and Roland, i've sent you a PM on the matter.

The decals all fit flawlessly! Been getting some pics of JUST the actual decals themselves, and laying them flat on top, and everything fits beautifully. In the morning, another shoot out in the natural light with the full board!

EDIT: Just wanted to add - I've been prepping my board, opened it up an took the velcro out of the footpad. Contrary to previous belief, the velcro actually DOES NOT match up with the velcro on the top of the board.

It's shorter than the two pieces combined, and it's much wider. This of course means Matty went out of their way to pick, purchase, and apply a velcro SPECIFICALLY for the strap.

Thanks, Vinz. Huuuh, the sun shines very bright, where you live! :lol Could you make some pictures outside in the shadow and some pictures in your room (without a flash)?

By the way: The footpad with the green background on your second picture is wrong. ALL the footpad decals will have transparent backgrounds as on your first picture. ;)

Oh HECK YES. :love

It looks INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!! Oh man I can't WAIT to get myself an Ultra kit!!!!

Thanks so much for the photos Vinz!!!! :thumbsup

(Roland, let me know if you need a Marty to model a board with your graphics on it! *wink* *wink*)

Hey, Roland. I can get ANY more pics of the "Ultra", as that's what's on my board. But i'm not sure about the "Light". HOWEVER, i've only posted 5 of the 30-ish pics I've taken.

And yes, the sun DOES shine bright here in Central Florida. :p Not helped by the fact that I had to take all the pictures at noon, but I wanted to get them posted before I had to leave for work.

The "light" version is not so important in that case. The colors of the Velcro at the "ultra" version appear very wrong in that bright sun (much brighter than it is in reality - damned neon colors! :lol). And the glossy surface of the decals is outshone.

A question: which footpad decal did you attach on your board for the photos? With transparent or with green background?

The ONLY thing not included in Roland's Kits

I spray painted the hole black, and hot glued two strips of cardboard into the recessed areas for the velcro - That's it!

Applying the Decals is very simple.

Just peel the backing off, lay the decal on top of the board but DO NOT apply too much pressure(It's best to start at the front, and go across to the kicktail), If the decal is clear and straight and all the edges are in the recesses, gently rub along the surface to adhere it completely.

Once a decal is adhered, it will stay firmly in place. Until you really apply pressure, it is very easy to peel the decal up if it is crooked. This way it is easy to get clear straight edges and to line everything up nicely.

I mean come on, selling in a 6″ playset from a drawing B sheet? Who does that?

Uhh, Mattel does, I guess.

Thanks for sharing! Sure it's not specifically about Hoverboards, but I find it to be incredibly relevant. They're still doing the same thing, but I think Scott's handling it a little bit better this time around so MAYBE (just maybe) he's learned something.

He's actually addressing that everything he says has to be pre-approved by corporate, so it's a start. But I still think it's a bit ridiculous that they pick a price, then change what they originally offered, to match that price they picked. I mean, why would they pick that price without being absolutely certain that that size of Castle could ship for that price? They had the foam cutout and everything.

But whatever. It'll be really interesting seeing how it unfolds. MOTU is their biggest line, I don't think they can skimp away as easy as they could wtih Ghostbusters or BTTF.
