Guys, you are definitely not helping us here with the "no interest generating outside of the Junkyard"-thing.

Owner is not member and member showing the item off is not the owner, so you won´t see a run of this on the RPF anyway anytime soon, I am afraid.

sorry for the confusion everyone, i didnt mean there would be a run here but maybe sometime in the future hed sell casts on ebay or something. i was just trying to see what people thought about the idea of technically recasting a master replicas prototype helmet and to see if they would even sell. i didnt mean to promote a run that quite posibly wont even happen.

What would you be expecting people to think when they see the word "recast" being bandied about with near reckless abandon? It's not a found part, so any casts made from the prototype would surely be against the forum rules if it were even linked to as an eBay auction.

but since it is just a prototype and was never and will never be produced or liscensed i thought poeple would see it differantly but i guess not.

oh well, its still an amazing peice though. does anyone know its full back story? all i and my friends cousin know is that its the only one to exist and was used to pitch the idea to bungie or microsoft (or whoever they had to get aproval from) to continue work on it and mass produce it but for somereason they didnt get the go ahead and the project got scrapped.

Master Replicas started going under after they refused to agree to the LFL's terms for re-licensing of the star wars line. They picked up Halo right around that time frame. because of their failiure to come to an agreement, they inevitably died not too much long after the fact. They canceled the Halo line before they up'ed and died.

I know that they had numerous prototypes, such as the FX energy sword (which was fully working), mini helmets, and 18 inch die cast and rubber master chief figure as well as a cast metal hornet. As for the helmet, I didn't know they even were going to do one. It's ashame MR couldn't see their company's death coming without LFL's license...

thanks for the info, it really is a shame they lost lfl and couldnt stay going after that. an energy sword would have been awesome, an i can only imagine what the helmet would have come out looking like fully finished.

so since the company is gone what are everyones thoughts about casting it and making coppies?

Since your friends cousin now owns the helmet, I think he can do whatever he wants with it. As long as he is the one making the copies, then I don't think it is recasting. I don't see it as any different than someone that owns a screen used Helmet, like the copies of the Original Stormtrooper Helmet that is now being offered in the junkyard, selling copies of it.

The thing now is that MR is no longer in existence. Something like this is something that would be seen as the same terms as the mention stunt TK helmet. Not long after MR went belly up, a member was offering castings of MR's Jango Fett blasters.

Another thing to ponder is that your cousin bought the prototpe piece through a source which had to have aquired it directly from MR, and it's obviously not a mass produced product that was offered. So you can sorta think of it has him "owning" it in a sense.

Have you directly talked to him about the serious possibility of doing a run?

i talked to him for a few minuets about it but hes kinda worried that something might go wrong in the molding process and the helmet would be ruined, so someone with more skill than me would have to be the one to mold it and he dosent want to ship it anywhere to have molded.

ill see if i can get some more details about it soon

If he has uber connections... Have him get in contact with the original sculptor/s

They may WANT to see copies finally get out into fan hands... Or they may be very against it.

This isn't a very clear cut n dry, black or white kinda thing.

It IS awesome to see this, and i would love to get a cast... I just can't say for sure how "OK" it is to recast it.

I hope some of the former MR guys see this thread and PM you. There are a number of them here... Do some research and u could prob figure out who could help... I am not at liberty to point them out as most are involved in other companies and licensed products...

I will shoot a few emails and see if I can help. ;)

I would advise fellow members to not attack MrGzilla for "recasting" he is trying to ASK for opinions. Wanting to know if it is ok or not.

No harm in asking. I'm very appreciative to see the pics. I had heard there was one made but have NEVER seen it or any proof of the proto actually being made!

Pretty neat lil piece.

I can hear tubachris salivating on his keyboard from here!!! :lol

I would also say that this is a machined piece, rather than sculpted. Also, since it has never been cast, you would NOT be recasting by molding it and casting 1st generation copies.

Whether you mold it or not, it deserves a paint job.
