Master Replicas Jedi Remote and/or Leia Blaster help required

I'm glad You found a great solution dude!

Regards,

Alberto

Thank you.

Here is another picture. I put a roll of 2" wide duct tape under the base to get an idea how raising it might look.

IMG_1352.jpg

As you can see, the top spacing looks much better. So now the challenge will be to make a base which not only raises the item, but also design it so that it looks as if has purpose in the look of its design.

I wish I knew how to 3D model. :(

Its a lot easier than you think! I went from a total 3D design noob to making my own parts for my TD Build

If your looking for a place to start I would try out Google Sketchup, thats what I started with and best of all its free! There are a ton of tutorials for Sketchup also. However, there are other free 3D design software out there to try. You can also check out Shapeways which I have used myself, again there are others out there, this is just the one that I use. Dont be afraid to try it out! I did and its been rather fun!

Actually I did try it out a couple days ago. I forget which application I used. As you said, it was pretty easy with something as simple as a round base. However, the size (even making it hollow) was way too expensive.

What I guess I need is a friend with a wood lathe. The reason I say friend is because if I spend too much, I'm not saving anything. I'd be better off buying a more expensive dome with base that actually fits right.

I tried to find some ready made discs at the craft store (wood, Styrofoam) which I could stack for the 2" lift but nothing was the right size. I need something with a 7.75" diameter to fit into the dome.

Ohh wow, I see what you mean, lol. Instead of making a base that fits perfectly, why not make something or use something smaller and perhaps make something to transition from the smaller base to the original. Like if you could get 6" PVC pipe you could use putty or clay to mold a transition from the 6" pipe to the base and add design details(if you are artistic). Tho, I am not sure if they make 6" PVC pipe as I have not been in the US for some time.

I had considered that. You tend to see where I want to go with this as I don't want it to look thrown together but yet I also don't want it to be expensive.

I had been thinking of this; instead of a single piece platform, doing several items that can be placed aesthetically... such as a bunch of those wooden spools they sell at the craft store.

Speaking of display ideas. I picked this up for $5 at the craft store (it was $10 but I used a coupon). It all solar powered. I've tried a lot of different items on it, Small snow speeder model, SWCVI Mara Jade statue, Right now I have my Jedi holoprojector displayed.

Here is a short boring video:

Went to another craft store and found a 7" precut wood base circle. It probably about 0.75" thick. 7" is what the remote's base would be if the plaque holder was not built in. I think I will one more and glue them together. That should take care of the platform. I still want a base for it to rest on. I could buy a larger cut circle base, as long as the glass sets right without looking weird.

I got two 7" wood bases and glued the tops facing together and gave it a couple coats of satin black paint.:

I still want a base to mount the platform. I could just get a larger wood disk but I would rather have an actual base for the dome like this: 8" Oak Wood Dome Base | Shop Hobby Lobby

Hopefully this will be back in stock soon. i found some other places but either they cost took much or the shipping charge is too high.

I got word from J Displays that my Leia lid has shipped. Their estimated lead time was on the money. I'll follow up when I get it.

Still looking for a base for my Jedi remote bell jar. I saw this and thought it might be cool as a base when lit up.

I also saw this. I don't have an immediate use but it would be awesome for just the right item.

Hobby Lobby finally got the 8" wood base in stock for the 8x12 bell jar. Once I get it, I will paint and attach it to the platform I already made. I'll post a picture when finished.

never saw the post with the Leia blaster lid...looking great!
how much did it cost?

Markus

Does that price seem fair? I checked another place online that calculated the cost of a custom made case and it came out close to the same. Has anyone else dealt with J-Display? I went to them because they have a section on their website dedicated to Star Wars items.

Markus if You need a display for blasters, I'm helping the Bobadebt Mauser European partecipants to have one. Currently the cost with plexiglass cover, blaster supports attached to mirror base, identical (dimension-wise and bending of front and back upper corners) to MR, without the black base underneath is around 110 € plus shipping. I have a small company in my town here in Italy, which is doing one for me, that will be the prototype for a run. They handcraft so turnaround is not lightning fast, but they work really well. I would like to start taking orders, if the prototype is good enough, after the 15th of Sept. They are working on a cover for my EFX Luke reveal saber too, and on that type, price will be around 65-70 € plus shipping.
I'll post some photos once I'll have the prototype in my sticky collector's hands.:D

Alberto

4 years later...

I have been looking at these Halloween decor plastic bell jars at Target for the last 3 years. Reg price $10 but I just picked it up for $8.

As you can see, it's a perfect fit.

I would like to add a 3D print of a Jedi logo to replace the top knob but I would need someone to do that. Also, I can pry off the bottom and get to the screws for the feet to remove and/or replace.

Wow! for $8 that is awesome! Did you find that at one of the seasonal Spirit Halloween shops? I wonder how my floating remotes would look in one of those. I may go see if I can pick one up.

I could help you with the Jedi Logo if you wanted. PM me and lets chat about measurements.

The only place I have ever seen them is Target. They have carried them in for Halloween in the seasonal area for the last 3 years.
