Mass Effect 2 N7 Armor Builds

I have been doing all kinds of tests with different paints on the foam and on the rubber and believe it or not the paint I used on those arms is Testors Enamel (#1103 Red Rouge) I honestly thought it would flake or crack but when testing it seemed to hold up better than any others and had better color too. However I am ONLY using this on the stripes. The rest of the suits will actually be stained with inks for the base colors and then I plan to dust spray them with Createx brand iridescent and pearlescent airbrush colors, and finally seal them with Createx gloss top coat.
And as I feared (and noted in my very first blog posting) the colors on the Female stripe will no doubt be changing tonight,.. apparently someone isn't happy with the way it looks. :lol

Uh oh,.. busted. :unsure
Day 29: Got the toe armor attached to the female boots and the boot tongue covers for both sets cut out. Also made a new set of N7 insignias, this time using construction paper on heavy card stock to prevent any colors bleeding like they did on the painted ones, again coating them with a heavy layer of clear resin to give them some depth.

I love these suits.
I have a pile of this foam at home and every time I try to do anything with it I end up with a kindergarten arts and crafts project, so I applaud your skill.

I am extremely impressed with the quality of this build. :eek Your attention to detail is outstanding. Who would think that something as simple as a flat piece of foam could be transformed into amazing suits of armor such as these.

WOW....just wow. One of the most impressive builds I've ever come across. I've just gotten into Mass Effect when the 2nd game came out and this is bang on! I've been unfolding the blood dragon armor in PEP and it's turned out ok but nothing like this.
I saw that you mentioned possible making different sets of ME2 armor down the road, do you think this material would work well for the smoother more rigid looking blood dragon set?
BTW I have some models of the weapons but they haven't been unfold. Lemme know if you want them. Keep up the great work!

What brand of clear resin did you use to coat your insignias?

I think it would work even easier to make the blood dragon set as there seem to be less compound curves on it.
I doubt I am going to have the time to do any proper weapon builds to go with these before D*C. but I have been having a crazy thought coming on. After seeing Yodajammies M7 Assault Rifle with his fancy pants milling machine, and then finding Volpins M8 Assault Rifle build with his fancy pants wood shop, (btw,.. totally hate you guys, lol) I may try the ultimate low tech version. Construction build in a similar fashion as Volpins but totally out of EVA foam.
I think its called Craft & Cast? You can find it (or similar) in most any craft store.

I love the builds and have been watching you thread and blog to see all the progress with the armors!! Good stuff! I did have a question though. I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but when you curved you chest piece, did you already have it assembled (the chest/ribs/abs), or did you wait til after?
Also I'm thinking about applying this to some other projects but was wondering how many of those mats has it taken to make the male suit. I'm 6'10, so I'm trying to gauge how many I might need.

That's a good idea to build the rifle outta the eva foam, you seem to have pretty much mastered the forming technique. Another material that you may want to consider is the pink block foam. I've been following the builds on another thread and it looks very versatile and probably more rigid. Anyways, I can't wait to see the final N7 armor when it's finished.
In the mean time maybe I'll play around with the blood dragon set and foam. I've already started pepping the chest piece. It's pretty good so far, but since it's more of a solid case instead of floating pieces, it's very hard to slip on and off...

I don't even know what Mass Effect is, and I love this armor, and want to try to make some myself.
how did you do the compound curves? What was used to cut the material cleanly? If you use scissors on foam, you don't get a square cut, its more "wedge" cut.
