Mask of Anubis bio

I raised the eyes and reshaped the snout a few times. I rechecked center and shifted it a little, it's centered overall on the board.

It's just not coming out exactly how I want it. I am getting a good feeling from what I have though.

Edit: 'cause I don't feel like bumpin' the thread

This is a little work done and from an angle to show how it would look when worn

Helluva start man, I have the same kinda clay & it lends itself VERY well to Bio sculpting. just enough uva give to be worked easily but stiff enough to hold it's shape REALLY well

...IMO, I feel the "ears" need to come down the sides a bit more so that there isnt a 2nd "ring" of Bio under them (just my 2 cents...can't say much, at least you have started yours). Looks like it's gonna be a pretty kickass Bio when your done man...can't wait to see it!!!

Your creations are always so freaking beautiful. Jeezuh. Great job on your bio so far! (Like Chris said, I dig that clay, its nice to work with) Keep up

I think laying them down will start to take away from the Anubis feel. The ears stand strait up traditionally so this is my compromise. I might make them a little taller though, I'm worried it might start looking a little too much like a Samurai when painted gold. So, the ears may get pockets to make them look more ear-like.

I haven't decided on the final paint scheme. The traditional paint is black with gold trim. But a gunmetal and gold might go well together.

Thanks! And thanks for being a fan. Now I just hope I can bring the whole look together when I'm done :) .

This is the first time working with this much clay, let alone the pro stuff. I got to play with sample pieces at the local sculpture supply before I made the decision on the Classic Clay. I was able to talk about the pros and cons of each. I know it's completely compatible with the silicones I'll use and it's also melt able. Watching Pros use it on YouTube is great. They shape it, heat it with a little torch thing, then cool it with a blast of 'freeze' spray.

Does anyone have specific tips on smoothing Classic Clay? I've tried alcohol, Turpenoid and acetone with a lint free cloth. I'm not seeing the smoothing I thought would happen. Am I expecting too much?
One guy uses olive oil with a different clay. I haven't had a chance to get the lighter fluid that was recommend either.

Well, got sidetracked... again.

I ended up making a mold and casting my 1/6th version.

On the right is my sclupt on the left is the first attempt to make a casting out of clay. I didn't melt it right and got mixed results, moslty bad. The mold is about a dollars worth of silicone adhesive. It is thick enough that I didn't do a mother mold. I was trying to emulate the full scale version.

I did two small pours to make this. I like this stuff. It ended up being solid because I mixed more then I inteded the first time and eded up just filling it up.

OK, this is taking way too long. But I did alot of changes after getting a couple of oppinions and stepping back to look at it.

I furled the brow, beefed up the jaw line and brought out the cheek bones more like Wolf. I'm getting a much better feel about this.

The snout is bugging me a little but I don't know how/if I want to change it. I'm not totally sold on my eyes either.

It looks awesome, Brother! I really dig the ears and the detailing you've started.

Couple questions: which mask is this bio being designed to fit? Per your armature, do you mind doing a really rough quick sketch (Napkin sketch, uglier the better, LOL) showing dimensions? Happen to have a shot of it, minus the clay? That looks like an awesome armature and I would love to replicate it. Thanks in advance!

Thanks! I haven't yet figured out exactly what texturing I want and where but I'm feeling almost done.

It's going on my Biohunter76 P1 half mask. This is the armature I started with. In retrospect I'm not too happy with it but I based the board and plastic on where I wanted my edges to be.

So, really I don't recommend doing it this way. My next one will be more like hez or Uratz:

The reason I used a board as a base is because I need it to be symmetrical for my own sanity. The sculpt is squared up and centered on the board.

Brother, I hear (read) the sanity reasoning! Son of a mechanical engineer, so it's in my blood, LOL. Picture is great and I'll check out those links. I've been on an armature hunt, off and on, for a while. Thanks and can't wait to see your finished work!

Looks great. Also, when I first glanced at #2 the top of it gave me a batman mask vibe.

Thanks,

OK, I'm just about ready to call this one done.

I made more comparisons to my mask and the fit of the bio I have on it and made my final adjustments to the sculpture. I added the tucked edge around it and shaped the dome to expose the back bump without looking like the P1 dubble hump. I corrected the dome shape a little too, then textured it with a rock. I made such a crappy mother mold I had to redo it an I cast one about 1am.

This is my first pull, I'm going to paint it up tonight(hopefully) in a traditional gray bio coloring. The second one I cast will be the more flamboyant Egyptian colors. These are the pics right after I demolded it and checking of fit. I’m ecstatic about how well it fit.

I think the detailing on the ears really makes that area pop - You gonna go with some blue colouring for the indentations up there? Could make a nice contrast...

The bio looks great and looks even better on your mask! Great job and I loved watching this thread!

I'm digging it! Looks very cool!

The dread rings are awesome.
Thanks! The dread rings where just staged for a photo. The ones I'll have on there will be gold

Yes, I was thinking every other slat, making it striped. I'm going to experiment with color after I get this first one painted. Maybe photoshop some of my options.

Thanks! I don't think scupting in the brown does it justice.
I had actually tried superimposing the bio on the mask but even still it was hard to get a feal for it.

This looks cool. It's sort of reminiscent of the AVP storyline where Predators have been visiting Earth for thousands of years, where they taught Egyptians how to build pyramids. I like the originality in your design.

I'm callin' this WIP done...

I painted up the first one Aluminum with the cheeks touched in gold the dome rubbed down with black and the rest dabbed with black and grey, the dome ring left straight Aluminum.
The Mask of Anubis #2 I painted gold and didn't like it. So I masked off the dome ring and painted it metallic black, the ears striped with blue. Both got the eyes painted black for display. I will cut the eyes out and touch up later when I get the mesh to do it.
