Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Hey, "Hulk" was was a good movie...not great but good.

No, it really wasn't.

It could have been, if they had done three things.

1) Get rid of the stupid comic book panel picture in picture crap. Talk about taking me out of the movie.

2) Hire someone other than Eric Bana. He's a pretty good actor, yes, but this was not the role for him.

3) Not make Hulk where he was getting bigger as he broke out of containment. Hulk gets STRONGER when he get angry. He doesn't get bigger. It's almost as if they were trying to explain the physics of why Hulk got stronger while conveniently ignoring the fact that the accident that made him The Hulk should have killed him with radiation poisoning.

since this Disney/Marvel universe chose the Edward Norton reboot "Incredible Hulk" over Ang Lee's "Hulk".

Wasn't really a choice, Incredible Hulk was always planned by Marvel Studios to be part of the MCU. Ang Lee's Hulk was produced as a standalone movie, around the time when they were only starting to think about doing a cinematic shared universe.

I know that. You think the after credits Tony Stark moment wasn't a dead give away? The point is that Marvel already had a fully developed Hulk movie, and they shelved it for another one. That was a choice they made.

Not much of a choice, considering that the Ang Lee movie was pretty much a giant suckfest...

Hulk was an abomination. .... see what I did there? Honestly. I cant trust someomes opinion who liked that film. It was god aweful. Horrendous.
Joking about the opinion btw.
But there was a reason it was shelved. It was s***e. Lol.

Excited about graviton. But the amount of cheese that comes out my telly isnt forgiven just because theyve introduced a great villain. Fitz and simmons really bother me. As the whole damaged past theme with Skye. I think its down to the actors skills tbh. And im sure theyll grown with the role. Sticking with it!

Improved each week so I cant expect more.

Here's the absolute best discussion I've seen about the differences between the two Hulk movies. Ang Lee's wasn't everybody's cup of tea and had lots of issues, but it was trying to do interesting things. The Norton Hulk movie 'fixed' many of the problems people had with the Ang Lee version, but forgot to do anything interesting of its own.

HULK'S POINT WITH ALL OF THIS IS THAT PEOPLE BRING UP THESE SORTS OF DETAIL THINGS WITH ANG LEE'S HULK ALL THE TIME. THEY WERE DIFFERENT FROM THE COMICS IN THIS WAY! THERE WAS A HULK-POODLE! THEY USED A FREEZE-FRAME! ETC, ETC. IT'S NOT REALLY ANY OF THESE THINGS IN SINGULARITY, HECK, THERE'S PROBABLY A HULK MOVIE OUT THERE WHERE ALL THESE CRAZY THINGS MAKE SENSE AND ARE HILARIOUS. BUT LEE PUT THESE CRAZY THINGS INTO A SURPRISINGLY MOODY GREEK DRAMA. AND THE EFFECT WAS BI-POLAR. BUT EVEN THEN, THIS INCONGRUENT DICHOTOMY WAS NOT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM.

ANG LEE'S HULK ULTIMATELY DOESN'T WORK IS BECAUSE THE FILM DOESN'T HAVE THE BILL BIXBY FACTOR. THE PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR-COMEDY ROUTE MAY BE INTERESTING AND SOMETHING HULK ENJOY, BUT YOU CAN'T MAKE A MAINSTREAM HULK MOVIE THAT WORKS IF YOU LACK A BASIC APPROACH TO ESTABLISHING EMPATHY. BY CHOOSING TO HAVE BRUCE + BETTY BROKEN UP YOU TAKE AWAY THE PERSONAL STAKES. HULK LOVES JENNIFER CONNELLY'S WORK, BUT SHE NATURALLY CONVEYS A SENSE OF TRAGEDY, NOT NECESSARILY EMPATHY. HULK LOVES BANA TOO, BUT HE IS ONLY A VEHICLE FOR THE RAGE HERE AND MISSES THAT BASIC FATHERLY, WARMNESS YOU NEED TO LOVE BANNER AND HIS WELL-MEANING WAYS. THE WHOLE FIRST 40 MINUTES OF THE FILM IS MEANT TO BEING WITHHOLDING OF THE HULK-NESS, BUT WE SPEND THAT ENTIRE TIME WITH A BANNER THAT IS "SHUT OFF." IT DOESN'T DO ANYONE ANY GOOD.

Here's the same author's response as to why the Marc Ruffalo version of Hulk is so so much better than the previous film iterations:
Film Crit Hulk Reviews Mark Ruffalo's Performance as Hulk : The New Yorker

I liked the first ninety seconds with the country hick Shield agent and the cars suddenly lifting into the sky. EVERYTHING after that was lame.

The solution to Coulson's return possibly lies in a couple of the Marvel films and comics.
Firstly when you see Thor leave Earth with Loki the Tesseract is in a container that doesn’t look like it ever could have originated from Earth. Its of Asgardian design. And he didn’t seem to have it when we first saw him in “The Avengers.” So either he returned to Asgard after to get it, Odin sent it on later or another Asgardian could have returned by Odin to Earth (remember it seems to be a two person activated device)to deliver it (and for who that could have been read at the end).
What you don’t see at all in the film was any of the bargaining between Fury and Thor for the return of the Tesseract. I’ll wager the reamination of Coulson was part of the deal, as was Thors return to Earth if there was further trouble of an Asgardian nature. Hence Fury’s assured comment at the end that “they’ll return when we need them” and thus Thors reappearance on Earth in “The Dark World” and his quick dismissal to the council saying "I didn't argue with the God that did." Not like Fury to give in that easily is it?
It would presumably be VERY easy to take Coulson back to Asgard or do any number of journeys once the Tesseract was working again in a short amount of time, hell they transported an entire Chitauri army to Earth with it so an Asgardian, a couple of people or a medical team would make little to no odds.
Healing Coulson, presumably if they had him on life support or in suspended animation could happen a number of ways. There are the healing rooms on Asgard (as mentioned in Thor), there is Mjolnir that restores Thor to life in the first film and could be possibly used on others and there is Idunn, Asgardian goddess of immortality ,whose not yet appeared in the films, but whose apples keep Thor in tip top condition and health.
I some what suspect we will get to see the actual answer of how Coulson actually came back AFTER “Thor; The Dark World” as, if the trailers are to be believed, there are a couple of scenes that suggest Thor takes some severe damage, and Jayne looks like she might possibly be in need of a reamination as well.

A much better and simpler explanation is that he is a clone/android since in the Avengers he was told over the intercom to report to the LMD (Life Model Decoy) lab.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of when he was told to report to the bridge to begin "face trace?" If so, that has nothing to do with LMDs, it was the technology they were using to sweep all wifi-accessible cameras to try to match Loki's face via an algorithm, allowing them to find him in Germany.

The only mention I know of, in the Avengers, regarding Life Model Decoys is when Stark, trying to have 12% of a moment with Pepper is interrupted by Coulson's call, only to pick it up to say "You've reached the Life Model Decoy of Tony Stark..."

When they said Hall's name I was sitting there thinking "I know this name sounds familiar...". Then as soon as they mentioned the gravity technology, I knew exactly what was going to happen.

Thing is though, Graviton is kind of a serious player, so I'm really wondering how 6 regular humans are going to deal with him. In the past he has been an entire Avengers cast issue to put him down.

You are right. I got the lines mixed up. I could have sworn they referenced the LMD, not face trace.

As far as I recall, the only LMD reference was made by Tony trying to fake Coulson out and get back to his evening with Pepper.

I'm thinking he might return at the end of the season in some sort of cliffhanger plot into season 2. I think Shield will meet up with a few minor Marvel superheroes along the way. Should be entertaining!

Well
As soon as Dr Hall started falling into the gravity generator I looked at my fiance and said "And there's the birth of a super villain"
Which felt both awesome and ****ty, because I saw it coming.

Surprises and twists are nice, but sometimes it can be fun to see exactly what's coming.

Exactly how I feel. If they're going to be introducing supervillains in the show, the agents are gonna need extra help along the way. I personally don't want to see one of them turn into a super (i.e. all the talk about Skye developing powers) but great avenue to introduce smaller superheroes into the MCU. The flipside with this approach is, with a TV show budget, the heroes/villains may end up looking cheap. Hopefully Marvel puts as much attention on the design and FX work for AoS as they do with their films.

Eh I don't know, the FX in the first couple episodes was a bit lacking. Design work is not necessarily a function of budget, but yeah for FX you gotta throw money at that to make it look good. If they budget things right so every few episodes has more bang, I think they can pull this off.

There's a line near the end, that makes me think that Coulson might be a clone after all. When he's fiddling with the slide on gun, he says something about muscle memory - the body's ability to perform an action without conscious effort, due to repetitive practice. If his body is a clone, implanted with his memories, his brain is aware of the action, but this particular body never performed them; hence, no muscle memory.

Just watched the third episode back to back with the first season 2 episode of Arrow, and it doesn't really make AoS shine in my book. While technically speaking it should be above Arrow, I feel it sorely lacks the fun factor I got watching avengers, it lacks action and it lacks a solid main story. If it's just a show about chasing magical artefacts, I already have Warehouse 13 for that, which I find way more fun... Of course it can always get better, but I expected more from the creator of Firefly.... I will keep watching though, because I don't have any other show to watch on Wednesday and I do am curious about Coulson's secret. He bleeds, he did die and have no muscle memory, I don't think he's a LMD like I thought.

Saw ep 3. It's getting better but OMG STOP SHOWING SKY I DON'T CARE ABOUT HER AT ALL WHY IS SHE EVEN THERE!???

So yeah, more SHIELD and tech and all that, less Sky PLEASE!

:)

What's wrong with the FX? Pretty darn good and better than most of the stuff out there.
