Another episode, another night of me not being impressed. 2nd episode was better than the pilot but not a huge improvement. The main thing that ruined it was the ridiculous Peruvian commanding officer and the really poorly choreographed fights. The cabin de-pressurization scene was painful - some scenes people were holding on to dear life and in other scenes they were just crawling on the floor; pretty sure they'd get sucked out in an instant if they did that. Nick Fury cameo was pointless and I didn't think the scene was that funny.

The writing and acting on Arrow is pure garbage but at least Stephen Amell takes his shirt off enough times to keep the CW fangirls tuned in. AoS doesn't have either of that, so they're going to need to step it up in the quality department if they want to stay on the air.

I don't know if I can take much more of Skye and the Skye/Ward forced love thing. If they just got rid of both those characters, the show would be a lot more interesting to me.

I think Coulson knows full-well that Skye is still in touch with her Rising Tide homies. My guess is that he's monitoring everything she's doing in order to gain more information. "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer" kind of thing. Frankly, I don't think she's actually the uber-hacker that she's been built up to be, but is someone the group is using as a front.

Exactly. I'm sure Coulson knows. But I think she will prove her worth as well as choose the right side in the end. Her story and the "Tahiti" references are enough to keep me watching. Great special effects for a TV show. I like it when they establish continuity with the movies. Hasn't felt forced at all to me, always seems like a logical connection for that universe and doesn't overshadow what is currently taking place.

More please!

That said, I will agree with the thing between Ward and Skye being forced.

I think the show is just starting to get its legs. It's not perfect, but I don't see anything that I would classify as a "fatal flaw" IMO. What I consider "fatal flaws" would be something that makes a show completely unsalvageable from the start, like a character that's grossly miscast (IMO). I still have hope.

If this show flops I'd like it to be a silent death that doesn't harm the core franchise.

I thought it was a moderate improvement over the pilot but not that thrilling on the whole. It doesn't feel fluid or natural but rather feels like a show written by committee, a committee that is so desperately trying to set up several "Very Important" plot points that they are ignoring the individual stories.

The action is not well done or shot and there was one scene where Caulson and the hot Commandant were shooting their guns side by side where I just about busted out laughing. Terrible.

That's what I'm saying! It became crystal clear to me during the decompression scene. That sequence was literally a live action comic book. If one goes back and watches it, pay attention to the framing and cuts. I even started visualizing speech bubbles in my mind.

If I see (or hear) a single "thwppp", "bamf" or "snikt" I swear I will geek out royally in front of my wife and kids.

I'm so glad some others are taking this show as what it is. It's a 8:00 show, based on a comic universe.

I totally agree with all the complaints I've read on here, as far as 'Real World' flaws go, it's so obvious that the creators aren't going for any kind of 'RW'vibe.
I'm most suprised no one has mentioned the 'dislocating/breaking of the wrist. She then climbs & fights, before fixing it (btw...I didn't think a wrist could be dislocated or a broken wrist popped back in place.

I kinda feel with this show, the same way I feel about the SW films- We are adult thats enjoy some things made for kids- Bottom line.

We grew up watching cheesy dialog, unbelievable action, & ham-fisted acting, & continue to enjoy it for nostalgia's sake. But if the same creator continues with the story THEY want to tell, & have it geared toward the original target audience, we cry foul.

It's almost like , as fans, we take ownership of someone else's creation, & demand it fits what We expect, not the story they want to tell.

Last night the adult in me was glad my wife wasn't watching with me, just for the eye-rolling moments. At the same time, I thought about the kids I teach that were watching the show & thought about how cool they probably thought it was.

I'm happy with it for what it is & here for the long haul.

I'm enjoying the show, but can't help but feel that it's basically the Saturday morning cartoon version of Firefly:

-Take one team leader in charge of a flying fortress. (That he babies)
-Add a pilot and his wife who is just as tough as the team leader...combine these characters into one female pilot character if necessary.
-Mix in one the fresh-faced girl with stars in her eyes, with more to her than it seems.
-Stir in one rogue who doesn't want to be controlled.
-Add genius characters who don't quite mesh with the others in terms of temperament.
-Season with Summer Glau, a prostitute, and a priest if desired (Optional)

The formula works, but none of the characters are as deep as their Firefly equivalents. They NEED that. We need some real mystery with these characters...we also need Fitz-Simmons to slow down and have fewer lines.

It's a fun romp and definitely could go fun places, but Ward needs to be dry, sarcastic, and aloof...he can still have a romantic interest in Skye, but we need someone to bring in some of that Whedon wit and he's the only character whose temperament is close enough to what is needed. (Well, him or the pilot)

I also can't help but feel like Fitz-Simmons would have been better cast as a single character, again slightly aloof, but brilliant and cool and who would come through in the clutch. Someone who when Coulson says they need a 3rd option would throw back, "No, it sounds like YOU need a third option..." Someone who would be in the lab, feet up on the table relaxing while the other characters were panicking and begging for an invention to save the day. Instead we have two neurotic characters who just babble.

I hope they slow the drama down a bit and just let us see the team going on some missions a bit. I want to see them explore the dynamics between them so that when they force the Skye/Ward thing, it doesn't feel as forced.

I'm still going to watch it every week though. Again, it's a fun romp and there's not much else like it right now.

The show's got way bigger problems than realism. Having said that, hey I'm all for suspending belief for this genre but when the action scenes look like they were choreographed by a middle school drama club and there's just massive inconsistencies all over the show, it's hard not to roll my eyes.

Nolan used the term 'hyper-realism'. It's not about making the show super realistic (cuz that'd be boring, really), but just grounded enough that the audience is engaged and can feel the threat to the characters. This show has none of that.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Either that or he's giving her time to figure out that she should join the right side.

I'm wondering if we will see other cameos in this? I mean RDJ did a commercial so surely he could pop in. Iron Man in action was mostly CGI (I think...) so all he'd have to do if pop the helmet open a do a few lines as Tony.

Some of it is a little predictable. When Skye got the message at the end I thought she would send the exact text that she did.

The high point really was the cameo at the end.

I don't think you'll see any Avengers cameos any time soon. They think Coulson is dead, so that would open a whole can of worms that is better suited for Age of Ultron, not TV.

I'm not sure if it was here or on reddit, but I'm beginning to think whoever said "Tahiti" was actually Valhalla/Asgaard was right. Coulson's mortal blow was dealt in noble battle (with a god, no less) and with weapon in hand.

I've been floating that idea on my Facebook for the last week!
I was happy this week to see Coulson eat chocolate and bleed, it precludes any theory that he might be a robot.
(At least I hope it does.)
