So in your opinion who is winning the movie adaptation race from comic book to big screen?

Is it Marvel vs. DC or DC vs. Marvel?

In my book I would have to say Marvel!:love

I've always liked DC better, but I have to say the Marvel films so far have been more entertaining for me.

Just my list....

Marvel Epic Failures:

Elektra - Had potential
Daredevil - Not bad but did not pan out too well
FF4 Rise of the Silver Surfer
First round of Punisher films
Ghost Rider - One of my favorite Marvel characters now forever covered with Nick Cage slim.......
Spidey 3 - EMO Parker
Xmen 3 - Too much on screen!
Hulk - By box office standards but I actually liked the first version by Ange Lee!

DC Epic Failures

Catwoman
Batman 3
Superman Returns.....? Never saw it only by word of mouth and RPF
Was Spawn under the DC label? I know McFarlane used to illustrate for them.....!
Green Lantern....?

I like DC but they slackin with films these days, my nephew got me hooked on Iron Man the past few years and converted me to the Marvel franchise. I do like how some Marvel movies are rated R... Still love Superman! lol

Well i guess I need to add to my DC list:

Batman and Robin
Superman III - Richard Pryor as a villain??? Missed that comic book
Swamp Thing - Campy for it's time
Supergirl - Other than eye candy.
Just watched Jonah Hex and have to say that movie was the worst! I loved the comic book character

Just my list....

Hulk - By box office standards but I actually liked the first version by Ange Lee!

Superman Returns.....? Never saw it only by word of mouth and RPF

I kinda like the Daredevil movie. It gets better after subsequent rewatchings.

I REALLY LIKE the Ed Norton Hulk movie.

I like Superman Returns too. Originally I didnt like the casting of Brandon Routh, but I thought he did excellent.

I wouldnt call these three EPIC failures. Just not as successful as hoped for.

The Director's cut of Daredevil is actually a halfway decent movie. MUCH better than the piece of crap that they put out in theaters.

And Spawn was Image, I believe. Todd also used to work for Marvel for a long time.

For a while the test was with television adaptations.
George Reeve's Superman, the sixties Batman and seventies Wonder Woman were all popular. Marvel had a hit with the Hulk show but television's Spiderman didn't fare well critically. The tv movies (pilots) were Doctor Strange and two Captain Americas that bombed.
Then the Superman and Batman movies did great. Marvel had a Punisher movie with Dolphin Lundgren and movies of Fantastic Four and Captain America that weren't released theatrically and considered to be crud.
I've left out a lot but you get the idea.

Now Marvel's movies seem to have the edge.

Let's look at what they've done just since 2000... You'd never know that DC was owned by a movie studio, would you?

DC has an incredible roster of iconic superheros and they've done almost nothing with them. Someone at Marvel finally got the bright idea to create a unified plan of attack in developing and creating films and I think it was a genius move to place a group of people that understand comics and movies at the top.

Both Marvel and DC have created some great and not-so-great films but overall Marvel is running circles around DC at actually getting things done. Someone at Warner Bros. took a big chance putting Nolan in charge of Batman and that paid off tremendously for them, but what else do they have to show? They seem content taking the half-ass approach playing with direct-to-DVD animated films and television shows when they could be a major force.

I just don't understand it.

I agree 100%. Granted I've always been a Marvel fan (grew up on X-men) but I always loved Batman and some DC book too. But when money was tight DC was always the first to go. I really do wish that DC could get some decent movies made though. It's frustrating that outside of Batman, they haven't done anything good in more than a decade outside of Vertigo titles. And the Vertigo titles of Watchmen and The Losers weren't THAT good. Though, I will admit I did really enjoy The Losers. But most people don't even know it was comic and the story could easily have been a Hollywood original.

I haven't read a Marvel comic in the last 15 years. I have always been a big DC fan. But Marvel is kicking DC's but in the movie department.

The ones I have highlighted are the ones I thought were the worst in my opinion alone. That said, it looks to be pretty even as far as suckitude. The fact that we are discussing which COMIC BOOK movies suck the worst makes me smile. As a kid, I never expected half of these on the silver screen.

This year is all MARVEL! THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA TFA. And all DC got is only the horrible Green Lantern.
Next year I THINK DC'll win. there will be a hard fight between The Amazing Spiderman and tdkr. TDKR is a summer movie so...
2013: Man of Steel...
