Hey TheRPF!

I'd like to say thank you to the brilliant people in this forum especially the 3d modellers and unfolders who are generous to share their great work.

This is my first build so go easy on me :D

I've been a fan of Iron Man since the first movie came out and I've been wanting to build something from the movies. I stumbled into a concept art from Iron Man 3 and I was hooked! I like the design of the Mark 42 and it became even more appealing to me when I found out that it came in pieces. That meant that I could work my way up to a full suit if I wanted to in the near future.

Also, Dungeon-escape Tony is really cool. I think I could wear it around conventions no problem.

I've seen a lot of awesome Mark 42 builds on this forum. I'm a little good at papercraft (I used to do origami), so I decided to give the ol' cardstock pepakura method a shot.

I started building the right gauntlet first using jackieisrockin's forearm file and Zabana's hands and fingers.

Here's what I've got so far:

I neglected to take progress pictures of the fingers :unsure

Zabana's hands were tough to pep but it was all worth it in the end. Look at that detail!

On the remaining pieces, I used darkside501st's ingenious tabless pepakura method. It really makes the surface of the pep a lot smoother.

Here's everything finished:

Fiberglass and bondo here we go!

Re: Mark 42/43 Forearm + Hand Build (Leisurely Paced)

Thanks creative stress!

Here's the first layer of resin on everything:

I laid 2 layers of fiberglass on all the pieces except the fingers which I only had 1 layer.

Update!

I fiberglassed the hand and it turned out pretty well. I also cut off the upper palm piece with a cutting wheel. I'm a little concerned with the size, though. It feels a little roomy.

I started filling in the low spots on the hand. I sanded it down with 40 grit sand paper hence the scratches. It's not perfect yet but I'll be adding a second layer to get a smoother finish.

In the meantime, here's the entire thing minus the fingers:

I'm still in the process of smoothing it out so opinions are welcome :)

I sanded the hand with 60 grit and 120 grit sandpaper:

I also fixed the sides with bondo:

I've been trying to get the handplates to fit together perfectly since it warped a little. Well, there's nothing body filler can't fix :lol

I'll post my next update when I'm nearing completion :)

Update! All the parts fit together pretty well and I started making the detail lines. I know it's been a terribly slow build but I'll try to get it done as soon as I can.

Keep it up man it's looking great. I've never tried a pep build like this myself. I assuming you're laying the fiberglass on the inside. Mat or Cloth? What weight?

Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks! Building with pep can get tedious at times but it does the job. I used two layers of cloth on the inside. I'm not sure what you mean about weight but the cloth I used is the one you usually find in most hardware stores. Best of luck in your next pep build :thumbsup
