Boot chainmail:

Still have to to sew it to the main costume, and add the boot trim... But this part is taking a while, and I wanted to give a semi-update.

Coming down the home stretch! Stay tuned...

Couple of updates:
1. Added belt
2. Added left and right details
3. Added gauntlets
4. Added center piece with trim
5. Added collar/cape trim

(Shield hasn't been glued yet... Just there for placement)

Big thanks to Belle... Wouldn't have been possible without her help.

Many more updates to come. Stay tuned...

Thanks MR! Truth be told... I can't wait till it's done and I'm comic con bound. I'm having a blast putting this thing together though. The work you guys are doing on your suit is unparalleled, but I'm gonna put a strong bid in for second best ;)

Another quick update. Finally finished one of the boots, and I'm working on the other one. These things are such a pain in the ass, but they're worth it in the end.

This is a really awesome job you've done so far. Makes me want to start one. :thumbsup

Thanks. Start it up bro... I've already done most of the trial and error stuff (mistakes). It'll save you a ton of money. Plus the people on this site are damn good if you don't want to go the route that I went.

Yeah, I've got a couple on the go to finish up first before starting anything new.

It's 100% polyester spandex... and it's thin enough that it becomes semi-transparent when I put it on. I picked it up at Jo-Ann fabric.
It looks awesome so far! Looking forward to seeing updates. Did you buy the spandex in yardage and sew it together or was it a one piece suit like the chrome underlay? I made a Man of Steel suit a while ago and am looking to reboot it so it's more movie accurate. Do you have any suggestions on how to get the chain-mail pattern onto the fabric?

I bought the spandex in yardage, and had it custom made for my body by a seamstress.

As far as the chain-mail pattern goes... You have two options:
1. You can try to get on the fabric run that Masked Rider currently has going. I believe his is professionally done through a factory screen printer, but I don't know for sure. Here's the link to his build: http://www.therpf.com/f77/some-recent-work-man-steel-movie-accurate-suit-203816/

2. The route I went... Which is to draw it by hand using various puff paints. This method is very time consuming, but well worth it if you take your time and do it correctly. As an example... It took me roughly three hours per boot over two days due to only being able to do one part of it at a time. I did a portion of both sleeves today, and I'll finish them tomorrow, but it has definitely been a test of patience. I wouldn't pursue this route unless you have a good chunk of time and a netflix account ;)

Well I have plenty of time and netflix so I think this might work haha! Me and a buddy are doing a batman/superman thing and aren't looking to have it done until the MoS 2 release in like 2 years. I definitly want to take my time on this one and get it movie accurate. Thanks for the suggestions and I can't wait to see your finished product!

This could be total BS... But I heard they're changing the MoS costume for Batman vs Superman. I'd either build the original MoS costume soon, or wait until some previews come out of the new suit. But it's your call.

Ya I've read that too, the costume release should be happening fairly soon since they started shooting. The costume director said only small changes so I'm guessing possibly a little more red to resemble the new 52 suit. I plan on starting it as soon as they release the new pic.

The boots are done! Except... I'm going to remake the right one because I made the chain mail too large.

Here are some preview pics:

How did you make the chainmail for the boots -- dimensional paint? How are you doing the pattern - do you have a stencil or doing it by hand?

I drew the design with a black sharpie, then traced it with puff paint. I covered most of the marker, but it adds dimension to the overall look either way. It was time consuming, but looks very cool when you're done.
