Mal Firfely/Serenity pistol Airsoft?

I am trying to see if it is possible to modify an existing airsoft gun
to be a nice looking Mal airsoft. The show gun was built on a Taurus
model 85 so I have been trying to find a close approximation of that
gun in airsoft form.

I came across this gun http://wr-cp.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=407
does this look like a good base gun? The strange black section on the
front of the grip is not present on the actual gun.

thoughts?

The strange black section is supposed to be an adapter made for smaller handed people to allow them to comfortably hold the revolver. It is probably removable.

This could work but it will require extensive modifications. IIRC, on the Mal gun, they used the Model 85 but removed the grip frame and replaced it with a new grip frame and mainspring/housing etc.

How would you even use it? I mean airsoft revolvers are already impractical for any kind of sporting use because of the loading process, but now you're talking about having one inside of the Mal shell, which i'm pretty sure required taking a whole side of the frame off to reload but i'm sure someone else can be more specific.

For all the work it would take... you're talking like 10 minutes to take the frame apart and reload the gun, to only get 6 shots out of it.

With an airsoft, the magazine could be made to fit inside the grip and be pulled out by gripping that piece of steel at the bottom with the hole. But how you are going to cock it for shooting without trying to attempt a gas-powered version is anyone's guess.

EDIT: Oh wait... man, I'm stupid... it already HAS a magazine... but you'd still need a automatic reloading system worked into the piece.

its true the mal gun was based on the targus, but like its been said to reload they had to take a panel of the side off and most of the gun was gone, either covered in a shell or replaced with different parts. very little of the original gun remained/remained visible. it was a pretty extensive transformation.

Actually I don't think this aspect of it would be hard at all.
Airsoft revolvers are fairly easy to reload and can be done
quite quickly as well as airsofts with standard slips. The
banana clip ones are a huge pain.

that being said; I was planning to modify it so the frame
would open much like the airsoft version of the colonial blaster

or the PKD

just seems it would be a difficult yet fun project to tackle.
I of course would use a gas gun. so you would fill it from
the handle and just fire till out of rounds then reload.

The trick would be successfully repositioning the gas reservoir in the grip into the new grip, which is a very different overall shape, and more extreme angle. I don't know that you could do it properly and you'd end up having gas leaks at best, at worst it would not hold the gas at all, or fire at all.

They chopped off the Taurus grip frame completely, and attached the revolver frame to a new grip housing. I know we have pictures of this posted somewhere.

The other aspect of using this gun is that it's bigger. It's a large frame that holds 6 rounds and the revolver used for the Tv and movie gun was a small frame 5 shot snubby.

That's a un-common design, most Gas Revolvers have the resovoir in the Cylinder.

This one doesn't though. It takes 6 shells.

And most of the newer gas powered revolvers I've been seeing seem to be going this way.

True but I don't think fabricating a new gas chamber for it would be hard. Just has to be able to hold the pressure.

Most revolvers I have had and seen have had the gas chamber in the grips. I have never seen one in the cylinders
myself but heard of them.

I was trying to find an airsoft that was the closest approximation to the Taurus 85 but I don't really see anything that
is that close so I think I may end up doing a lot more custom fabrication than I had initially hoped but oh well.

I was really hoping to get my hands on a SidKit Mal pistol and modify that, but that is looking less and less likely.

As an OT, if you wanted to use it as an airsoft/pellet firing replica, you might want to check out Brocock guns from the UK; they are air powered guns, but the air charge is contained in the "brass shell" of the round itself as opposed to the actual gun...

You're getting into awfully complicated territory here. Fabricating a new one would mean replicating the filling valve, in addidition to making one that can safely hold the pressure.

Yea but I work on and make airtight valves on large and small scale
all the time at my job as it is so that for me is the least complicated
part of the whole project. The frame mods and actual build of the
shell would be the more complicated issue, but still they are things I
am willing to tackle.

Also I wouldn't necessarily need to replicate the filling valve I could
just use the old one and a few of the components on the new system
that needs to be built.

I'm starting to think about someday building my own all metal/wood Mal gun, so this interests me. Is there any all metal airsoft or other replica of the Taurus 85 for sale anywhere?
