Well, I finally decided to give this a try. I am 'treking-out' my office. I started a blog about it here.

There are already a handful of posts and pictures. If you want to look at the images with no context, here is the album.

The room will include my wall mounted replicator as seen in this thread.

Official construction begins this weekend as soon as I finish up a couple of small projects for board members.

If you decide you want a bubble fish tank like Picard had it was made by Aquaplex in Hayward Ca. makers of TRUVU Aquariums and filters.

I used to work there.

Honestly, the wall replicator would be a little dumb unless it does something. How about make it dispense liquor?

^That is a brilliant idea! Really, cause liquor goes good with everything. Just like cheese. Cheese is good.

I like the way you think Kerr, and Sulla...keep it going Brotha!

Small update on the blog.

Too Cool!

Have you decided what to do on your window? Instead of curtains, have you considered window tint, or possibly a space picture window film or window tint?

Thanks.

I have not decided yet. I am thinking that dealing with the window will be the last thing I do to the room. I don't want to alter or attach anything to the existing window. I may cover it up or build a tight-fit 'plug' for the window that has some kind of trek theme.

You could go with black foam core (solid black all the way through) then get a cheap fiber optic piece from Michaels that has 50 strands attached to a battery pack.
For different colors some translucent ink or food coloring could be used.
Or Christmas lights with pinholes or FO.

Cheap and easy to do and you can get Christmas lights that run on batteries or solar powered.

This is a very sweet project. I wish I had a few more rooms in the new house to do something like it. :)

Resurrection.

I had to put this project on hold. I am briefly taking it off hold to get a few pieces of the room done.

I should not that there has been a major design change. I time traveled to a different century and my decor did not come with me. Details on my blog including a new fully colored and scaled model of the room design.

I am doing the window cover, door covers, and stand up console. I will be using plywood for the console and window cover. I want to use some kind of light weight material for the door covers that will take standard latex wall paint. I am wanting something that is 1/4" thick at most that will not curve or curl when hung on my doors.

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions as to material to use that could be purchased at a local hardware store. I had liked the idea of pink foam insulation boards, but am afraid they wont take a good painting.

The weight and curving nature of the door covers are a concern due to my plan of mounting them on the in-swing side of the openings. Here is the (very simplified) mounting plan (does not show layers or dimensionality):
