Making First Set Of Dreads

You should check out Bonzorus thread on this subject he is giving step by step detail on this process, pitfalls, learning curve and progress.

Stay away from the FF 3... it's no good for dreads.  If you're going to use a FF product, go with the FF 6.  Better yet, use Kryolan or Burman foams.  I've used them all and am convinced that the Kryolan is the way to go.  Steve is having good luck with the Burman (my results with it varried too much for my liking).  The FF 6 is pretty reliable and gives fairly good results, and doesn't seem to be as finicky as the Kryolan, but you won't get the same results.

I have not yet had a chance to try the FF6 personally but I know Clay is using it and so is seahnterr and I believe milk as well. I have personally had the best results with the Burman TC-266 foam to date but have only used it in a silicone mold. The TC-266 is not technically considered a self-skinning foam but is does skin and seems pretty tough although it will tear. Spraying the dreads with black Plasti-dip adds a skin to them that is very tough in my opinion. The biggest problems I have had is getting them to skin well while being soft and fairly dark throughout but I am learning. As soon as I can get some more silicone I hope to finish my new molds so I can start cranking them out. Brian has tried a bunch of different foams and has been a big help to me with my dread project. Clay has also tried some different foams as well.
