Making a "working" trigger, need ideas

I'm trying to build a working trigger (that just moves, not to actually fire) for my Endor rifle. The metal airsoft receiver I'm using is gutted, so I just have a wood block inside to attach stuff to. I cut a groove to fit the trigger and tried to just mount it with a spring pulling from behind, but it catches and sticks. Is there another way to do this?

I don't know nothin' 'bout an Endor rifle, this is just a comment on the
sticking spring. Could you put the spring inside a tube or cylinder of some
kind before putting it in the groove....to work something like a spring inside
a ball point pen?

What if you used a spring that doesn't pull from behind but keeps the trigger in the unfired position and you have to pull the trigger back against it to simply compress it and when you let go it goes back to the unfired position? that would just require hollowing out the wood enough for a small channel for the spring to sit in and enough clearance to compress. I can do a quick doodle if you want as i'm not good at explaining this kind of thing.

I've done this a few times with the spring pulling from the front above the trigger.

You already have the void to work in so the job is already half way there. Some sheet styrene and a spring from a pen will do for materials. You just need constant pressure so build your spring box small than the spring but also large enough for the trigger to move and function. This is why I suggest a spring from a pen as it can be stretched and is easily replaceable. There is also the fact that its already an airsoft receiver so a replacement trigger or junk parts assembly will work. Then you just cut the junk internal housing to fit, done.

This is something that I scratch built for my Halo Assault Rifle. Just used styrene and a spring from a pen. This is the whole thing minus one wall to show the cross section. It is being used with a "trigger" switch (that green box in the rear.

I used a spring from an old floppy for a prop. It was a resin printed one so it was easy to modify the 3D model and put the small spring in place.

Thanks for the ideas! I went with Wes' idea because it looked like the most simple to throw in there. So far it works pretty good. I think on the next build I will just use a styrene box inside if I need to because it's easier to set up where you want the spring to go.
