Making a urethane batsuit look dull (begins related question)

Hey guys. Didn't really know who else to ask on this, but I've been Batman for about the past two years now and while I'm rather happy with my kit there has been one thing that's really been irking me.


My suit is REALLY SHINY! Now, this is a urethane piece, and I was wondering what I could do to really dull it out. Any tips or suggestions?

First, I have to say your suit doesn't look THAT shiny to me, at least not from that pic. Yes, it is picking up the light source for the shot, but the pay off is that we see all the detail of that beautiful suit you have. To me, it is not distracting from the overall badass-ness of the costume. However, I know what it means to have the EXACT look you want, so if you really want to get rid of the glare, here are my thoughts.

Since it is urethane, typical rattle can paint won't cut it (that tends to flake off once the urethane flexes). Your best bet would probably be an acrylic matte black paint, applied in several light coats through a spray gun, coincidentally just like in the film.

Hey, although I'm fairly confident it would work maybe test it first just incase it doesn't match up to your durability needs but I would maybe try a flexible matte varnish, I know liqutex make one that's worth a try, but just go as far as one or two neat coats and allow to fully cute. Suit looks great though!

Have you tried using Armor All protectant wipes - matt finish. I use this on my begins suit and it seems to produce a nice black without too much shine.
