Making a hair punch tool

I watched a vid on how to make a hair punching tool using a cut needle eye and an xacto knife. Anyone here try that? I was just wondering if that works in casting latex and if there's a specific xacto knife I need for the needle to fit.

Thin latex works, preferably backed with foam.

If it's thicker latex? Be prepared to break a lot of needles.

I totally punched the eyelashes for my Leela prosthetic with a sewing needle jammed into a wine cork. I didn't need a very precise tool, though. I clipped the needle's eye with a jeweler's snips/pliers

I used this method of cutting a sewing needle for hair work on my chewbacca. For the handle I heated the opposite end to the head and when it was hot I jammed it into a hot glue stick to use as a handle. Worked a treat. I was punching hair into silicone, but I'm sure it works the same for latex.
