Making a Force Awakens X-Wing Pilot costume

So, I am working on putting together and X-Wing pilot costume. I've had some luck modifying a football helmet into the pilot's helmet, but, came across a problem that I know the fine people of RPF may be able to help with.

I've modded the facemask in to the top blast shield with the help of some handy duct tape, but, now I'm looking for a way to make it smooth like the ones from the film.

Here is a picture of a movie prop and mine so far.



So far my only idea is craft foam, but that's far from perfect.

Your best bet would be a layer of Bondo sanded smooth, but I don't know if it will adhere to the duct tape properly.

the Football helmet is a very good base I think. Maybe to use an Visor cover of an SPH helmet, Its low cost ($25) and you can found it here:
