Make chrome look like steel?

Hi guys
I came across a replica metal A Knights Tale helmet that has a chromed look. The movie helmet is steel. I'm not sure what metal this helmet is.
How can I make it look like steel?
Is there a chemical? Or sanding?
Advice?

I've attached a pic next to a gauntlet that has the required steel finish.

You could try with different scouring pads grits(dish scouring pads that is). Select a spot inside the helmet for a test and see which grit works best. Good luck.

It probably is steel, just more polished than the movie one. Different grades of wire wool should do what you want.
