Hi,
Here are some VERY ROUGH wip of the magneto helmet
from x-men first class movie.
I used a junk casting of the comic style magneto helmet to start the build.
Rough grinding of the cast. cut outs removed.

styrene strips was glued to layout the new trim.

bondo was sloppily applied to the area between the styrene strip.
still need to slop on another layer of bondo to get a little more thickness.

a little comparison on the comic vs the first class helmet.
the 1st class has a more rounded dome and materials was removed from the side to have a waist? look. Foam and bondo was added to the bottom of the lid to flared it out slightly.

Anyway, a little fun work while waiting for the paint to try on the other helmets.
Thanks for looking.

Another weird thing in the first trailer is that if you go frame by frame you'll notice that Magneto is actually changing the shape of the helmet with his hands as he passes his fingers over it.

And this shot is just cool-

Is it me, or does the close ups that Nick provided show some black padding against his cheeks and temple/eye area? I've been mulling over how the fit of the helmet was done, and seeing the inside back without any padding may assume two things:

-there are two different helmets used on screen (without padding in the rear or none at all, as I may be seeing things).
or
-the design of the inside showcases very minimal padding, only in key areas to keep the helmet snug and more streamline for the the visual effect.

Looking great! I have one of your comic style helmets and love it. I might have to pick up one of your movie style ones once you finish it.

I also can't wait to see the full purple and red movie costume!

Both just look really amazing! Truly is something cool to wear during the premiere! :) Just a fanboy thought there

I hate to be a nitpicker but I think the face spikes all need a little reshaping.

The forehead spikes extend a bit too high.

The spikes to the sides of the eyes don't follow the top downward swoop of the edge correctly and instead flair out sideways a bit.

And the cheek spike's top edge line should follow through and match-up to the edge's arc of the spike that points to actor's eye.

Also the inner edge around the eyes should have a beveled edge on them-

But I imagine that you're still working up to that point.

Hard stuff to describe but I hope the pics help make my points clearer.

Again awesome job and I can't wait to see one of these all painted up!

Also here's a couple pics from an Xmen: First Class promotional booth at a recent convention in Spain-
I think the helmet is a replica though.
