Magic of Myth ( MoM ) Luke RotJ Hero ( cave build ) lightsaber research, images, reference, & collaborative model builder's discussion.

I have a pretty solid idea on the rail setup they did. Just need to prototype it.

Just to clarify that the FX model Adam and I are focused on (and the proprietary rail system) is made to be durable *and revealing ;)

Would love to knock out and determine the best canon setup for scratch builders though.

I just need time to do it (I’ve been in the process of moving the past couple weeks)

Here's the best I've been able to do so far.

Made a thicker LED plate, but have yet to install it.

Got a good shade of copper with some aluminum black.

Just trying to get the clearest shots of my setup that I can.

Also, I have not cut away the wall behind the plate, yet.

I apologize, I realize these aren’t very HD. But drizzt1234 stayed up all night and we were discussing (debating) some of the last bits until late in the day.

So those are side by sides from the Fusion360 viewer for iPhone (if anyone wondered)
They’re not Hi-Res but it’s such a great tool for feedback and discussions. The past few
months I’ve been working heavily, moving, and dealing with a great deal of busywork but have also been able to have real-time-feedback with Adam as we’ve designed this model.
I believe.... the model... in my opinion (at least exterior cosmetically) is buttoned up for the FX cave variant!

So I might make a few more of these: but I hope the above photos can express just how bang on we are!!

Expect more overlays to come: like this: (sneakpreview!)

Looking really great! Did the measurements I sent the other day help?

Absolutely!
They were followed by a whole mess of debate , markups, and concepts haha.

That thing is wonky. And I think we had something like 17 pommel variations up until this point?
Adams a champ for putting up with me haha

Really well done, duders!!!

Y'all have killed it, I'm absolutely astounded by it!

I noticed you added that little chamfer (or is it really a chamfer?) at the front vertical corner of the control box, opposite the LED side. I've been staring at that little detail for a long time, now, and I still can't figure what it is! Did you make it a chamfer?

In some pics, that darker line makes it look like the box walls are separate, like it's not milled from one piece, but of course I couldn't believe that was the case. What'd y'all decide was the reason for that strange artifact? Chamfer, or something else?

Chamfer definitely

There are 5 chamfers on the box.

1.) vertical chamfer Front corner opposite the faceplate.
2.) bottom chamfer opposite side of the faceplate and buttons (this is the largest chamfer).
3.) vertical chamfer back of the box corner opposite side of faceplate.
4.) vertical chamfer back of the box corner rear of the buttons.
5.) bottom chamfer under the buttons. Yet note this chamfers does NOT run the entire length of the box. There is no chamfer under the faceplate itself. It terminates where the faceplate starts.

Unless someone gets their hands on the real deal, I can't imagine someone else going as in depth as you guys have on this Hero. Thank you for putting in so much time and effort into this. Looking forward to owning one of these.

I've been attempting to do just that.

I'm working on some leads/connections I have but they've been thus far fruitless.

I do know some folks that have in-roads with Lucas (Gus is a friend of mine, for example)...

So I am still working on getting actually confirmed measurements of the original prop, however that has gotten even more difficult since the Disney acquisition.

Thanks for all that chamfer info!! Looks like I've got a little filing to do!

You know, it's funny, I wanna say that this lightsaber (aside from maybe the Graflexes), is probably THE MOST replicated lightsaber out of them all, there have been SO MANY runs over the years, and one-offs, it's nuts.

And this is the first time I think that anyone has nailed it as thoroughly as this!

Great group effort, folks!!!
