ThanksWelcome Dave! Good to see you plucking up the courage to post. Good luck with your build (pictures when it's done?).
ThanksWelcome Dave! Model is looking good! Note that ours, we are looking into logistics to do a production run, FYI. Something to consider. Tho I would never begrudge wanting to see your model manifested in reality.
I can certainly say the "trickiest" things to get correct if you are going for full screen accuracy are the grenade rings and plunge grooves, and the pommel gear.ThanksI'd definitely consider putting my name down for one. Sure! I'm in the UK though unfortunately, which bumps costs up. One of the reasons I've opted to make my own, as well as the challenge. I've bought from Roman before and paid more in postage and customs charges than I did for the actual saber. Still worth it though
Thinking I might do a run of 5 myself. Purely to help with machining costs. Not a commercial venture. Mine's going to be a static hilt though (for now) so I'd be interested in paying out for something more fancy. Thanks again for the welcome.
I know what you mean! You think you've got it, then a new piece of info comes out, or you find a new photo! I hadn't seen half of these on this thread before I started. No doubt I'll be adjusting it a few more times before I'm doneI can certainly say the "trickiest" things to get correct if you are going for full screen accuracy are the grenade rings and plunge grooves, and the pommel gear.
BRRogers and I have agonized and gone back and forth on those two elements at least 200 times or more.
Thanks. Yeah. Definitely a few bits and pieces to tidy up still (especially the pommel cubes!). I was admiring your hero build earlier actually. Very nice. You've set the bar pretty high there!Your model is looking great! And welcome!
I'm already seeing a few spots with the grip rings that are off (as well as the pommel cubes and a couple other things), but it's close!
Keep it up!!

I've just been testing my latest model against my main reference shot, and I was actually pretty happy with the grenade section.... I've stumbled on something though, and I don't know if anyone else has noticed this before?? This particular image is almost certainly cut out (badly) with a false shadow. So it turns out my primary reference isn't 100% reliableThe irregular ellipses on the emitter gave it away while I was aligning my model with the image. There's also a chunk taken out of the D-ring. The more you look at it, the more obvious it becomes. Back to the drawing board!
Apart from that it was lining up *fairly* well. Ha!
Thanks for the welcome![]()
I don't hold out much hope for my grenade rings! They look like someone's gone at them with scissors :s I'll get it lined up against the close up grenade shot later.I see what you mean on the plane image. 'Old school' cut & paste, literally.
I literally spend all day, every day on photoshop! I'm embarrassed I hadn't noticed until now. Oh well, I'm going to be checking it up against the better shots over the next few days. I'll definitely be on the lookout in future. Cheers.Be
Be wary. That photo is a photoshopped one of one that BR posted in the first post. It shows a chunk cut out of the main body where it narrows to the gear. It's a bad photoshop job and we all but discarded that particular photo from being used because it is not a raw photo.

That looks pretty damn close! Roy's doing a great job lining your model up with the reference shots (which is a skill in itself!) Managed to check my grenade rings and pommel against some of the other references. The rings weren't too bad, but the pommel was WAY outIndeed!
So true as we’re at it again!
Currently re-assessing the pommel due in part to overlay assistance by Roy (which Roythrough/ with tandem note sharing Anakin Starkiller who is already off to the races adjusting the pommel to match photos to renders.
But at least at this point we know that we are super in the ballpark and Adam and I are thinking about a model that might include 2 pommel gears... since it seems the asymmetry is significant enough to establish an ideal and ‘canon’ variant.

Above is (one of) the overlay graciously provided by AS/Roy of our model. At a glance it looks dead on but rest assured the minute variances are what drizzt1234 and I have been debating 200fold and are still adjusting.
